Meet Terell Johnson of La Create Space in Inglewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terell Johnson.

Terell is the co-founder of La Create Space. Terell attended college at San Jose State University where he majored in Radio, Television & Film with an emphasis in Broadcast Engineering. After finishing at San Jose State, Terell started his tech career at Cisco Systems where he worked as Collaboration Analyst on the Advanced Cisco Experience team and eventually worked his way to become a Video Engineer before landed the same position at Facebook.

As an engineer and creative, Terell’s unique perspective on media and technology has helped shape and guide the video conferencing, communications and collaboration industry.  Terell focuses on using video and technology to make the world more connected and collaborative place.

Terell was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles and always worked hard to better his situation and keep growing, learning and becoming a better engineer and person.

Terell currently works in the Los Angeles’s Silicon Beach at Snapchat as a Video Streaming and Collaboration Engineer. He is a husband to his partner Marisa Johnson and a father one-year-old daughter named Halo.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Growing up in South Central was a challenge. Around my neighborhood, I was always reminded on what not to do and where I didn’t want to be. I saw friends getting locked up, going to juvenile hall or just getting in trouble.  We didn’t have much so I had to make due with what we had. I looked after my younger brother while trying to help my mom where ever I can.

I always had a level of respect for adults, coaches, and teachers.  I used sports and school as an out, an escape from my situation, an opportunity to  meet new people and a way to see the world. In elementary, I scored high on a standardized test and I was able to select my middle school. I chose the top science school in my district; the school was 1 hour way with no traffic and I had to wakeup at 5am everyday and take the bus for 3 years.  Durning this time, I was introduced to the internet and computers when my dad who worked at IBM as a cash register tech got me my first computer. Little did I know that the skills that  I learned watching my dad fix computers, me trying to play games and typing papers, would set me on a path that of understanding technology.

Please tell us about La Create Space.
La Create Sp_ce is a creative co-working, meeting and production space located in Inglewood, CA; right in the heart of Downtown Inglewood. La Create Sp_ce offers an open work space, private conference rooms for creatives, brands, startups, and companies come to meet, create and collaborate.

La Create Sp_ce offers resources and tools ranging from digital project management, design, audio, and video production, to social media and business consulting to help kickstart and guide members through their projects and business goals.

Inspired by the need for creative workspaces in the community that they grew up, Terell and Marisa Johnson found the Hillcrest location and planted the seed as the first home of La Create Sp_ce. They wanted to build a place where small business owners, artist, techies, social media influencers and content creators could come together, grow ideas and bring projects to life.  The purpose of the space is to be able to come to a place where you can meet with your crew, brainstorm your shoot, film your project, edit and then throw a “laugh party” in our event space.

Everything is available under one roof.
