Today we’d like to introduce you to Simran Oberoi.
Simran, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I believe I was destined to be where I am today. I was always a makeup and skincare enthusiast but never did it cross my mind to make this a career. After graduating with a degree in Fashion Technology, I felt like I was lost and I needed an outlet for all the creativity I had inside me. After working for a few months in the corporate world, I started my blog on Instagram called Simreebeauty. It was initially just a hobby and as time passed, that was the only thing I would concentrate on! I started booking clients and applied for makeup school in Los Angeles to learn special effects and body painting too. I designed my logo, my website and spent hours working on this new career. I am really happy where I am today and I am glad that I get opportunities to grow every day. My brand Simree will soon have its own cosmetic and skincare line too and I am very excited to see it bloom into its full potential!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing in this world that is worth having comes easy ! This is a quote that I read and remember every time I have to go through a hurdle or an unpleasant experience. When I started, a lot of people doubted me, criticized me for choosing an artistic career over a 9-5 job and called me crazy to follow my passion. But I always had my family beside me and I believed in myself which is what was the most important part. If you are following your passion, don’t listen to what people say. Just keep doing what you do and sooner or later, you will reap the benefits of all your work. Makeup Artistry isn’t an easy job. I often have 12 -14 hour days and that doesn’t exhaust me because I love what I do.
We’d love to hear more about Simree.
I am a freelance makeup artist/blogger and I specialize in beauty makeup and homemade skincare remedies. I work with brides, models and give personalized makeovers. I do editorial work and some special effects makeup too. I also give personalized makeup classes to women. My brand Simree is working to have its own organic skincare and cosmetic line by October 2019, and we are very excited about it! Once you are a part of the Simree family, you will always be a part of us!
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
Women who believe in themselves have all the opportunities they need. The only thing is to be focused, disciplined and keep the hustle on! There are a million opportunities for women in the beauty industry, so don’t shy away from trying. 🙂 There are a million beauty-related books out there, but my favorite ones are by Bobbi Brown and Kevyn Aucoin.
