Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny Laubbacher.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
My work life really started when I helped some friends start a non-profit organization called Invisible Children. We worked to raise the profile and hopefully end Africa’s longest running war.
I was there for 9 years and then have moved on to doing short concert documentary videos for people like Tove Lo, Foster the People and Cold War Kids as well as some music videos. When I return from tour this go around I’m going to focus on some tv show and short film ideas I have.
Please tell us about your art.
Currently I mostly make mini-documentaries for musicians. I seek to humanize them through interview-based videos. Interviews are fun because they always start off in one direction and if I’m able to really listen to what the artist is saying the interview gets steered into a direction of something the artist is really passionate about but didn’t realize that’s the thing they wanted to say. Interviews are like a fun puzzle. I also travel a lot so take as many pics as I can while traveling.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
I can’t speak for all artists but for me it’s always focus. I’m always pulled in so many directions but if I want to get something done that’s outside of my normal routine it takes a lot of discipline to stay focused in order to do so.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
