Today we’d like to introduce you to Gordon Holden.
Consume Cool started as a simple sticker. And slowly morphed into an art project that focused on the conceptual aspects of consumerism and brand identity. The project posed as a brand creates limited edition products alongside art installations.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road but it has been an exciting and gradual process. I believe most if not all creative endeavors are not smooth because of the sole fact that they are new, and new things question what already exists. New things always take time to develop and to be understood by both the creator and the viewers. Humans are creatures of habit and brand loyalty is a fascinating aspect of our identities in today’s day in age. The ongoing search for meaning within consumerism while also taking part in it is a fascinating and fun journey.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The part of Consume Cool I am most proud of is the ability to exist both within art and fashion simultaneously. Consume Cool creates limited edition products and has sold fashion pieces with exclusive retailers such as Colette in Paris, Tast in Taiwan and Vfiles in New York. As well as exhibiting artwork at Art Basel Miami and galleries in LA, New York, and London.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
LA is probably the best city for this type of business/ work. For people starting out, I would recommend- keep creating things that you enjoy living with and forget about the things that don’t give yourself meaning. I think starting out in LA is beneficial because it has more opportunity. Depending on your working habits it can also be distracting.
So being honest with yourself is probably the best start whether or not you can work to the point of producing meaningful work while not being too distracted. But then again it’s easy to be distracted anywhere you live nowadays since the advent of social media. I do think traffic can improve dramatically to help increase the accessibility to the parts of the city you are not located, but outside of that, I don’t see any realistic improvements the city should make.
