Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Galasso.
Nicole Elizabeth loves her work – especially the timeless, in-between moments of formal shots. As a mother of small children looking for a side job, she developed a passion and hobby in to a full-time career. She began with newborns in a hospital setting, quickly transforming relationships and opportunity in to an intimate home experience capturing new arrivals and parents. Nicole harnessed her talent documenting milestones and relationships, and quickly evolved from newborn photo shoots to engagement photos and full-time wedding photography. In the past decade, this had expanded to include fashion, lifestyle, and event photography. As a native Angelina, her life in the beach cities of Los Angeles has provided her the perfect setting to play with natural light – her absolute fave – in the endless landscapes available in Southern California. Nicole’s natural talent for connecting to people translates effortlessly in the images her clients will forever treasure.
Please tell us about your art.
Natural light. Natural environment. Natural behavior. I specialize in capturing the real-life moments between the shots — the whoopsies that end up being the nostalgia of the moment. Natural light is my playground and, combined with bountiful natural settings available to us in SoCal, each shoot brings a mood individual to the day and weather — creating a unique experience and image every time. There’s an exciting magic in nature’s raw elements that provides its own dynamic backdrop, and I get to capture it all in a time capsule.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Network. Network. Network. Having your own business means that you are self-promoting CONSTANTLY. Be confident. Get out, get social and go have some fun! The nature of my work/art requires that I engage with people and CONNECT. Art is vulnerable. Art is risk. Stretch yourself. Make community. Be authentic, put yourself out there – your audience is waiting. Social media has gifted artists with a direct line to a like-minded community. Go find it. Do your homework. Find others out there that inspire you. Join on-line communities, follow those that inspire you, reach out and ask questions, learn your craft – you will always be learning! Social media is a great way to connect with people. There are many photographer social media engagement groups. Instagram is a great platform to find inspiration and connect. Look for mentors and, in return, mentor others. Get over your ego and comfortable with “no’s” and turn each “no” in to a learning experience.
