Meet Chase Shi of Chasingfoto in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chase Shi.

Chase, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a product manager at a mobile gaming company. However, photography is always my passion to pursue. I’ve been taking photos for 10 years and focusing on portrait photography for the last 3 years.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Since I moved to LA, I got really fascinated by how amazing the photography resources it offers. Great model talents, collaborative makeup artists and stylists, beautiful weather and shooting locations. Overall, LA has the best photography community in my opinion. Nothing really made me struggle!

Please tell us about Chasingfoto.
Chasingfoto is my photography brand, which shares the idea of my name and the work I do. I love taking photos of people, specifically people with a unique characteristic. And, I always feel my specialty is that I can explore and amplify the shining characteristic of each different individuals. There’s no normal model, you just need to talk, observe, and really understand them.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I still remember when I was 10, I bought the Seagull Camera to take black and white films in the suburban area. I fearlessly took multiple shots of a dog, who eventually got pissed off at me and chased after me for 1 mile.
