Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Crites.
Hi Brian, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
DJ Kasanova is a Ventura County native from Thousand Oaks, CA, whose love for music started at a young age. Growing up, he was heavily influenced by the radio mixes he heard on Q104.7, now Q95.9, KROQ, Power 106, and DJs like DJ Wicked, Kidd Spin, DJ Relyt, Divine, JScratch, Jeremiah Red, and the Bakaboyz. His mom bought him his first starter set of turntables around age 11, and from there, he began teaching himself how to beat match, curate mixes, and understand music on a deeper level.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been alot of ups and downs. I grew up in a poor area with a single mom. I was 1 of 5 kids. She worked alot and we didnt have a ton of money. I stayed out of trouble and really focused in music and that kept me busy. I really had to work for what I wanted since we didnt have the extra money. I learned at an early age to grind and work hard for that money, to save my money, stay out of debt etc.
I stopped djing in my 20’s and sold everything including my music. Eventually getting married, having our son, moving to texas, having my daughter and then moving back to California. I started djing again back in 2022 I really had to start from scratch with a macbook, a controller, and gathering that music all over again. It was a tough process. I started working late nights again and truly starting from the bottom.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about DJ Kasanova – Kasanova Entertainment?
Kasanova Entertainment is a full-service DJ and event entertainment company based in Thousand Oaks, California, serving Ventura County and beyond. We specialize in DJ and MC services, professional sound, lighting, and creating the kind of energy that makes an event feel unforgettable.
What started as a love for music at a young age has grown into a brand built on experience, professionalism, and genuine passion. I started DJing when I was around 11 years old, learning to beat match on my first set of turntables, digging through crates of vinyl, and studying the radio DJs who influenced me growing up. Music has always been in my bones, and that foundation still shapes the way I approach every event today.
Kasanova Entertainment is known for bringing high-quality sound, great music, and the right vibe to every event. We provide entertainment for weddings, private parties, corporate events, nightlife, school events, and community events. I also hold residencies with Tarantula Hill Brewing Company, Dave & Buster’s, Cronies, and The Yard Bar & Grill, and I’m part of Vybe Agency, performing at Club Louie’s in Westlake Village.
What sets us apart is that we don’t just “play music.” We read the room, create momentum, and build an experience around the people in front of us. Whether it’s a wedding, a packed dance floor, a brewery event, or a corporate party, the goal is always to make the event feel seamless, fun, and memorable.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Kasanova Entertainment has grown into something authentic. It represents years of grinding, stepping away, coming back stronger, rebuilding my name, and creating a brand that feels true to who I am. It’s rooted in real music culture, hard work, and a love for bringing people together.
What I want readers to know is that Kasanova Entertainment is more than DJ services. We bring the music, the energy, the hosting, the sound, the lighting, and the experience needed to turn a good event into a great one.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
One piece of advice I’d give anyone just starting out is to stay patient, stay consistent, and really take the time to learn your craft. Don’t skip the foundation. Learn the music, practice your transitions, understand how to read a room, and pay attention to the DJs and artists who inspire you.
I wish I knew early on that building a name takes time. Talent matters, but so does professionalism, showing up prepared, being easy to work with, and treating every event like it matters. Some of the smaller gigs can lead to the biggest opportunities if you approach them the right way.
I’d also tell new DJs not to get caught up in trying to sound or look like everyone else. Build your own style, trust your ear, and remember why you started. For me, music has always been personal. The more authentic you are with it, the more people feel that energy.
Most importantly, don’t give up during the slower seasons. Keep practicing, keep networking, keep building your library, and keep putting yourself in rooms where you can grow. The work you do when nobody is watching is usually what prepares you for the opportunities that come later.
