Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Walker.
Jordan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Jordan Marquis Walker, founder and CEO of Brilliant Species, born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, California. Brilliant Species started from something deeply personal. As a father to a son on the autism spectrum, I saw firsthand how often people with disabilities and neurodivergent conditions were viewed through limitation instead of brilliance. I grew up feeling different myself, navigating ADHD and life in ways that didn’t always fit the “normal” mold, so this mission became bigger than clothing for me — it became personal.
I started realizing how much language and perception shape the way people see themselves and others. Society often focuses on labels first, and I wanted to challenge that. That’s where the name Brilliant Species came from. The idea is simple: people aren’t broken versions of humanity — they’re a brilliant variation of it.
I started building Brilliant Species while working regular jobs and driving to support my family and fund the vision. There were a lot of late nights spent designing, learning branding, studying culture, and figuring out how to turn a message into something bigger than just apparel. Over time, I realized I wasn’t building a clothing brand — I was building a movement.
What started with my son and my own experiences has grown into conversations with families, educators, creators, and communities that believe the narrative around neurodiversity deserves to evolve. We started showing up at autism events, disability resource fairs, and community spaces not just to sell merchandise, but to create connection and shift perspective.
As we continue growing, one thing I’m really excited about is expanding the storytelling side of Brilliant Species. We’re building relationships with ambassadors and people like Mikey Infante, while bringing on others who are willing to share their experiences and what brilliance means to them. I never wanted this to only be Jordan’s story. I want people from different walks of life to be able to step into this and say, “This is my story too.”
Today I’m still building, still learning, and still growing the company day by day. But what keeps me motivated is knowing that Brilliant Species is creating visibility for people who often feel unseen. If a simple symbol can become globally recognized, then I truly believe Brilliant Species can become a unifying symbol that helps people see brilliance before limitation.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building Brilliant Species has definitely come with challenges. Early on, it felt like I was pushing against parts of the disabilities/special needs community instead of moving alongside it. I’d hear things like, “You’re worried about the wrong things,” or, “That’s not even the term we use anymore.” There was a lot of this way versus that way, and I was trying to stay true to the vision while figuring things out.
I also realized there’s competition between advocates and organizations. Everybody wants to be first — first to bring the new idea, first to lead the conversation. Sometimes it feels like the wild Wild West out here, but I never got into this to be first. I got into this to build something real.
Funding has been a challenge too. I’ve been the boots on the ground behind Brilliant Species. My wife Eloysa has supported me, brainstormed with me, and helped carry the vision, but a lot of the weight still landed on me.
At the same time, I still had to be Jordan before I could be a founder — being a father, husband, son, brother, and business owner while navigating my own mental battles and ADHD.
Through all of it, I refused to change the foundation of Brilliant Species for approval. I truly believe everything works on God’s timing.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Brilliant Species is more than a clothing brand — it’s a movement rooted in awareness, positivity, and changing how we view neurodiversity and disabilities. A lot of people know us through our apparel, but the clothing has always been the conversation starter, not the final destination. We specialize in shifting perspectives and helping people see brilliance beyond labels.
What sets us apart is that this came from lived experience. Growing up with ADHD, there were moments where I felt unseen and misunderstood, but I still became everything I am today — a father, husband, entrepreneur, advocate, and founder. Becoming a father to a son on the autism spectrum only strengthened that perspective. I kept seeing brilliance beyond labels, and that’s where Brilliant Species was born.
What I’m most proud of is that we’ve stayed authentic. We never changed our foundation to fit in. We’re building something bigger than products — we’re building community and shifting the conversation.
And we’re still growing. Our vision reaches beyond apparel into advocacy, speaking, community support, and creating opportunities. We want the Brilliant Species logo to become a unifying symbol across neurodivergent communities — one message: brilliance exists in many forms.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
If there’s one thing I’d want readers to take away, it’s that brilliance has never needed permission to exist. A diagnosis or label doesn’t define a person’s value. And for anyone who has ever felt unseen or misunderstood — keep going. The things that make you different may end up becoming the very things that make you powerful.
