Today we’d like to introduce you to TreyTM.
Hi TreyTM, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
my dad has been making music since before i was born, he had a number one song on chicago radio station. he’s always been my biggest influence and inspiration. when i was a child i obviously gravitated towards music, but being so young i thought it was this ethereal, lucrative practice that only specific people could do, like wizards. i didn’t know u could just have a microphone and record ur own songs. i have a vivid memory of when i was around 8 years old and him introducing me officially to his old songs. in that very moment when i found out i could make music i knew it was my calling, i haven’t looked back since. he’s been making beats for a while and he showed me how to make my first beat at 12 or 13, and gave me his old equipment that he wasn’t using, that was in 2016. ever since then i’ve been self taught with producing, being a multi-instrumentalist, and rapper.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
the road has not been smooth. learning how to take what’s in ur head and bring it in the physical world is not an easy thing to do but it’s always been worth it. i’ve faced struggles and insignificant as letting one faulty wire ruin my whole session, or not having the skill to play a part i hear in my head, but the biggest challenge as of recent memory is making time to create and figuring out how to monetize off of it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
i’m a rapper, producer, engineer, writer, director, multi-instrumentalist, and creative person overall. i specialize in hip hop based, bass heavy and often times sample-driven music, inspired by every genre i can get my ears on. im most known for being the beat supplier, and constantly trying to prove myself in every verse i write. my most proud work (that’s released of course) is my most recent full length studio album “Tragedies & Heroes.” it touches on themes of individuality, and not looking to external sources for a sense of self, past friendships, betrayal, and at the end, tranquility and thankfulness for the way things are.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
going to different studios with my dad as a child and seeing the creative process very early on.
