Conversations with Skyler Sawyer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Sawyer.

Hi Skyler, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been really drawn to music, I was always surrounded by music as a kid. My step dad was apart of a popular band so I was always being dragged around tour after tour. I started out helping with events, promotions, and content creation, which naturally led me deeper into the entertainment and nightlife space. Over time I built experience working around artists, branding, social media, and live events while also developing my own identity as a DJ and creative.

I wanted to know more so I went and got my Bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Business, which helped me understand both the creative and business side of the industry.
I always was behind the scenes and applying all my experience to help build others. Finally, I took a chance on myself and started focusing on ‘Cakes’.

Right now I’m focused on continuing to grow within the music and creative industries, especially in roles where I can support artists, brands, and projects in a meaningful way while learning and evolving professionally.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road, but I think those experiences have helped shape me the most.
You always hear “learn to fail” “never give up” and that sounds easy when you are chasing something but there will be times where it feels like it will break you.
You have to handle more than you feel like you can handle at times but that’s the cost. There were times where I had to balance multiple jobs, freelance work, and personal projects while still trying to build long term stability and momentum for myself.
In each moment, prove yourself and take in every experience.
You never know where it will lead you.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My background is mainly in entertainment, music, events, which set me up perfectly to be a DJ. What I’m most proud of is choosing myself and building longevity in entertainment. I’ve stayed committed to growing within this industry even when things weren’t always linear or easy. I’ve continued investing in my skills, relationships, and creative growth while learning how to evolve with an industry that changes constantly.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Social media is also a huge tool for inspiration when used intentionally.
I also enjoy listening to interviews and podcasts from creatives, artists, and entrepreneurs because I like hearing how people navigate challenges, reinvent themselves, and build careers long term. I’m very interested in mindset, discipline, branding, and personal growth, especially in industries that move fast.
