Check Out CJ Soul’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to CJ Soul.

Hi CJ, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My road in music began at a very young age, but when I was a senior in high school is when it started to become a serious aspiration for my life. I started writing and the Boys and Girls Club I went to in San Pedro had a recording studio. That’s when I fell in love with the process and discovered I wanted this to be my life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life has it’s ups and downs. I’ve quit multiple times. There were times when I had thoughts that maybe I made the wrong choice for my life. Maybe I should have done something different. At the same time, music has given me so much to be grateful for. I’ve done things and been places I never thought to even dream about from a performance honoring Michael Jackson the year of his passing (with Jermaine in attendance), to working with some of the people who were intricacies in my inspiration coming up as a kid, to traveling the world. It makes for an immeasurable payoff for all of the hard times. And challenges still come every day. I just do my best to answer the call.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I like to call myself a creator, an artist. Music is the driving force and my favorite form of art. At the same time I just love being creative. My music is my passion, my craft, but I enjoy creative hobbies like customizing sneakers as well. One of the things that I’m most proud of is my work at the same Boys and Girls Club I attended in high school. I worked there for three years in the same studio where it all started for me. In my time there I was fortunate enough to be a part of a $250K renovation in which I had the opportunity to gut out the studio and design something brand new and long lasting. I think the thing that sets me apart is the joy and passion I live with and create from. I love to collaborate with other creatives and bring people together. I’m pulled by a vision to create great projects to share with the world and I find inspiration all around me everywhere I go.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I enjoy watching Drink Champs or any interviews with artists who inspire me.
