Hidden Gems: Meet Rasha Mediene of Coach Rasha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rasha Mediene.

Hi Rasha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Rasha Mediene, and I’m an entrepreneur, swim coach, travel content creator, and experience curator based in Los Angeles. My journey definitely wasn’t traditional, and honestly, that’s what shaped a lot of who I am today.

Before I ever started teaching swim lessons, I spent years trying different jobs and figuring out what kind of life I actually wanted. I worked management positions and other traditional jobs, but I constantly felt like I was helping build other people’s dreams while having very little freedom or control over my own future. Deep down, I always knew I wanted to build something for myself, I just didn’t know exactly what that would look like yet.

Moving to California from Detroit, Michigan gave me the opportunity to really explore entrepreneurship. I went through a lot of trial and error trying to figure out what worked for me and what didn’t. The turning point came in 2019 when I started taking swim coaching seriously. Swimming had always been a part of my life growing up, so it came naturally to me, but what surprised me was how quickly it grew once I combined my business mindset, customer service experience, marketing knowledge, and ability to connect with people.

Over time, I built a swim coaching business that became known for helping people overcome fear and become confident in the water quickly. A lot of my clients were adults or children who were terrified of swimming or thought they would never learn, and helping people push past those mental barriers became one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

At the same time, travel has always been a huge part of my life. Since I was young, I’ve loved exploring new places, different cultures, and experiences. Naturally, swimming, travel, content creation, and curating experiences all started blending together. Water became a common theme throughout my life, whether it was teaching swim lessons in Los Angeles, traveling to coastal destinations around the world, creating travel content, or organizing unique social experiences and events.

What I love most is that my career no longer fits into one specific box. I’ve been able to combine entrepreneurship, travel, social media, creativity, and teaching into a lifestyle that feels authentic to me. A lot of people see the content or the business side now, but behind it was years of figuring things out, taking risks, learning from failure, and slowly building a life that gave me more freedom and purpose.

Today, I continue to grow my swim coaching business while also expanding my work in travel content creation, storytelling, and building creative experiences and event concepts. I’m still evolving, still building, and still finding new ways to connect all the things I’m passionate about into one bigger vision.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, and I think that’s something a lot of people don’t realize when they look at entrepreneurship from the outside. There were a lot of challenges, especially in the beginning when I was still trying to figure out who I was, what I wanted, and how to realistically turn my ideas into something sustainable.

One of the biggest lessons I learned was that so many of the teamwork and communication skills we learn growing up or in school actually become extremely important in business. Entrepreneurship sounds independent, but in reality, you constantly have to work with people, build relationships, manage clients, collaborate, market yourself, and navigate difficult situations professionally. Learning how to deal with different personalities and communicate effectively was a huge part of my growth.

Financially, there were definitely struggles too. When you’re building something for yourself, there’s a lot of uncertainty and risk involved, especially at the beginning. I had moments where I wanted to do everything at once and grow as quickly as possible, but over time I realized that trying to scale too fast can actually hurt you. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that it’s much better to start slow, stay realistic, and build a strong foundation instead of rushing the process.

Another major challenge has been marketing. No matter what kind of business you have, if people don’t know you exist, it becomes very difficult to grow. I had to learn marketing, branding, social media, customer service, and content creation largely through trial and error. A lot of entrepreneurship is honestly just learning as you go, adapting quickly, and not giving up every time something doesn’t work the first time.

I also think one of the hardest parts is balancing freedom with responsibility. People often see entrepreneurship as freedom, which it can be, but it also comes with pressure, uncertainty, and constantly having to push yourself even when nobody else is telling you to. There’s no guaranteed paycheck or roadmap, so you have to stay disciplined and keep believing in your vision even during slower seasons.

At the end of the day though, every obstacle taught me something valuable, and I think those experiences are what helped shape both my business and my mindset today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Coach Rasha?
Coach Rasha is my swim coaching business based in Los Angeles. I specialize in helping both children and adults become comfortable and confident in the water, especially beginners or people who are fearful of swimming. Over the years, I became known for helping people learn quickly while creating an environment that feels supportive, encouraging, and personalized to each student.

One of the things that sets my business apart is that I focus heavily on confidence and mindset, not just technique. A lot of people come into lessons feeling embarrassed, nervous, or convinced they’ll never learn how to swim, so being able to help them overcome those fears has been one of the most rewarding parts of my work.

I also built my business in a very modern and unconventional way through social media, word of mouth, content creation, reviews, and personal branding. Instead of approaching it like a traditional swim school, I focused on building genuine relationships and creating a recognizable personality behind the brand.

Something I’m especially proud of is the amount of trust people place in me. Teaching someone how to swim requires patience, communication, and a strong sense of responsibility, especially when working with fearful students or children. Seeing clients gain confidence in themselves both in and outside the water is something that continues to motivate me.

Outside of swim coaching, I’m also involved in travel content creation and creative experience concepts, but Coach Rasha remains the foundation that gave me the freedom to build and explore those other passions as well.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always very loud, outgoing, curious, and full of energy. I was definitely the kid who asked a million questions because I always wanted to understand how things worked, why they were done a certain way, and whether there was a better or more efficient solution. Looking back now, I realize that mindset played a huge role in shaping me into an entrepreneur.

I’ve always enjoyed problem solving, innovation, and finding ways to make things smoother, easier, and more logical. Even now, I’m constantly thinking about systems, automations, experiences, and how things can be improved. I think that curiosity naturally carried over into every area of my life and business.

I was also never afraid of attention or being in front of a camera. I’ve always had a strong personality and enjoyed entertaining people, talking, sharing experiences, and creating environments where people can have a good time. That ended up helping me a lot later in life with content creation, social media, marketing, and building personal brands.

Travel also had a huge impact on me growing up. Experiencing different places, cultures, and environments made me look at the world differently. Whenever I travel, I pay attention to details, experiences, and ideas that stand out to me. I’m constantly inspired by things I see in other places and naturally start thinking about how certain concepts, experiences, or ideas could be improved, recreated, or introduced somewhere else in a unique way.

I think overall I’ve always been someone who combines creativity with logic. I love creating memorable experiences and thinking outside the box, but I also enjoy structure, efficiency, and understanding how everything connects behind the scenes. That combination ended up influencing almost every path I chose later in life.
