Conversations with Koko Loren

Today we’d like to introduce you to Koko Loren.

Hi Koko, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey as an artist has taken me on different walks of life. I am an actress, a dancer, a singer, a content creator and a teacher. My passion is acting and creating content for then wild radical black girl like myself. Getting to where I am now took as Peter Pan would say “faith trust and a little pixie dust.”

I started acting in high school. I took a huge break to focus on dancing which took me around the world for 5 years. Until the pandemic slowed everything down to a halt. In that time i discovered a love for content creating and built a platform for myself on Instagram and TikTok. Allowing me to connect with other radical whimsical beautiful energies and speak on self care and self love , fashion and astrology.
I most recently got back into acting and have been featured in a couple movies and stage plays. My journey is far from over but what a beautiful start/return.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No roads are smooth of course and mine definitely has not been. My biggest setbacks has been fear. That fear mainly stemmed from the naysayers that surrounded me. I fell into a state of depression for 5 years that derailed much of my plans and goals. It took me diving into myself spiritually and having people around me who supported me not only getting better but reaching goals I was afraid to reach. Also being late diagnosed as neurodivergent at the age of 31. It took me a minute to realize that this was not something that would keep me from being great or being successful. It took for me to get around like minded individuals who shared within my struggle along with therapy and meditation to help me get to a confident state of mind. I may not be where I want to be just yet but I have more faith in getting there.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known for dancing. I’ve been dancing since the age of 6. Dancing was and always has been my first love. I took a break to focus on my health and other projects but I always return to the dance floor. I’m trained in hip hop, jazz, modern and west African dance.

I’m also a content creator. My content is mainly dedicated to self love and self care. I look at myself as the whimsical bestie a lot of us may need who is also down to earth. I am also known fashion based content mainly my hair. I love to do wild bold colors and finding outfits to that compliment my hair. My aesthetic is a mixture black girl magic and unicorn vibes. Im
Most proud of the content I’ve even able to put out mainly because of the feedback I get from people who interact with it. Daily I get replies from social media about how my content may help someone through their day and that makes me happy.

I also have been featured in one film and two stage plays. Acting has been reintroduced in my life as love of mine. To display the charisma I have throug the characters I’ve portrayed has been a joy for me.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My charisma is really the most important when it comes to my success. My vibrancy and willingness to generate it creatively. Whether it’s being on stage or on camera. The charisma is literally the drive to being able to express myself in the ways I want. I am often told how vibrant I am and how much energy regenerates. I feel that I can go far and really make a name for myself in more ways than one.
