Conversations with Tyrone Perry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrone Perry.

Hi Tyrone, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Los Angeles with a clarinet in one hand and a basketball in the other. I played in orchestra on clarinet and alto saxophone while chasing serious hoop dreams I even earned trials with The Long Beach Push. Then life hit me with a major injury that changed everything. While recovering, I turned all my energy to music, and that’s when my real story began.

I started grinding from the bottom with Shorty Mack and Knockout Ent, which opened doors to collaborations with Roscoe (DPG), Producer Press Play, Chris Brown, Ben J of the New Boyz, Gorilla Joe Black, Boskoe, Slim Thug, The Rej3ctz, and many others.

The journey took off when I linked up with Sticky Fingaz. I contributed to his groundbreaking Digital Album Movie The Illiest Man Ever, and through that connection I got to work with legends like Kurupt (DPG), N.O.R.E., Freeway, Rick Ross, Packman the Gunman, Compton Menace, and Eastwood. I’m especially proud of dropping my single “Big Stepper” with Compton Menace and “Bubble Up” with Eastwood. That same energy even landed me a performance spot on the legendary Onyx 1993 tour — an unforgettable experience.

Around that time I also teamed up with El-Jay as his engineer, producer, and songwriter. We went fully independent and made real noise charting #2 on Billboard, hitting #1 on iTunes, and co-writing the film Triumph, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. I later had the honor of presenting at the Young Artist Awards as well.

Those breakthroughs gave me the vision to build something bigger. I founded H1T Records, which evolved into H1T Entertainment — a complete ecosystem created to help artists navigate the industry with clarity and real power. Today we stand on five pillars: H1T Records, H1T Films, H1T Fest, H1T Nation, and H1T Academy. H1T Fest, created alongside my partner Perceptive (Princess Vashon), has become one of those events artists circle on their calendars every year. We recently signed our first official artist, Bravioso, who’s already releasing heat under the H1T banner.

By the way, the name TruDotP (or Tru.P) stands for Tru Potential. I believe everyone carries the potential to become exactly what they dream of it’s about connecting the dots, staying consistent, and never quitting on your vision.
It’s been a wild, non-linear ride full of injuries, breakthroughs, late nights, and miracles. But every chapter reinforced the same lesson: stay true, keep creating, and the path will reveal itself. I’m still grinding, still elevating and this is only the beginning.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Losing my father when I was just eight months old was the greatest challenge of my life. I owe everything to my mother a strong, resilient woman who refused to make excuses. Despite unimaginable hardship, she went on to earn her master’s degree and build a career as a special education teacher.
There were many dark seasons: watching money vanish, deals collapse, and people I trusted turn their backs or sabotage my efforts. There were nights I questioned whether any of it was even worth it. The injury took a heavy mental toll as well, leaving me feeling like I was starting over from zero more times than I can count.
I’ve slept in studios, survived on the cheapest meals possible, and heard far more “no’s” than “yeses.” Doors slammed shut repeatedly. Yet every single struggle taught me something profound. Those hard times didn’t break me they forged me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a multifaceted artist, producer, songwriter, audio engineer, screenwriter, and actor. I’m best known for my work in music production, songwriting, and screenwriting.
When I reflect on my journey, I feel truly blessed to wake up every day and do what I love. That alone is something I’m deeply proud of. Among all my accomplishments, I’m most proud of earning my Billboard, Spotify, and iTunes plaques. Many people work their entire lives chasing these milestones and never reach them so I don’t take this success for granted. This is only the beginning, and I know there’s so much more to come.
Another highlight was serving as a co-writer on the project Triumph, which was selected for the Cannes Film Festival. There’s nothing more humbling than seeing your work come to life on screen and watching audiences connect with it.
What sets me apart is my creativity, relentless work ethic, and resilience. When I set my mind to something, I refuse to let anything stop me. I stay committed until it’s done.

Any big plans?
Man, I’m absolutely lit up thinking about H1T Fest this year. It’s not just growing it’s exploding bigger, louder, and more electric than ever before. Picture this: packed crowds, insane up-and-coming talent lighting up the stage, surprise guests that’ll make your jaw drop, and that rare, undeniable energy you can only feel when you step into an H1T event. My partner Perceptive (Princess Vashon) and I poured our souls into creating this, and I’m beyond excited to watch it turn into a must-attend tradition every single year.

I can’t wait for everything we’re building. We’re signing and shaping the next generation of stars for the H1T Records roster — real talent that’s about to take over. H1T Films is expanding heavy, and I’m hyped to bring you fresh feature films, hard-hitting short films, and visual projects that tell raw, authentic stories straight from the heart.
Even bigger we’re launching H1T Academy. I’m looking forward to giving artists real mentorship, powerful workshops, and the actual tools they need to navigate this industry and win. At the same time, H1T Nation is growing into something massive: a real community, a movement, a family that’s rising together.

And the music? Bravioso is already cooking up heat, and I’m counting down the days until my own TruDotP album drops. New visuals, tours, surprises we’re going all the way. The lineup is stacked with fire artists ready to shake the game, and the energy around it all has me smiling ear to ear.

This is only the beginning. We’re creating something legendary, something that lasts.
So tell me… who’s ready to pull up, feel that energy live, and make history with us?
Let’s make this year unforgettable.
