Today we’d like to introduce you to PK Kugasemrat.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Thailand and came to the United States for school. While I was in school, I worked part-time at a Thai restaurant, and I started feeling that maybe one day I could own a small Thai restaurant of my own. I want it to be simple and fast, like Thai street food, with affordable prices just like in Thailand.
I’m still improving and developing myself. Every year, I learn from feedback so I can become the owner of a Thai restaurant where people in the Valley feel welcomed and accepted.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s all very new to me. Everything has been a new experience. I’ve never owned a business before, but because I love food, I know what good flavor tastes like, and I wanted to share what I enjoy with other people. At the same time, I understand that not everyone likes the same things I do, so I have to keep working, improving, and learning every day.
I’ve realized that owning a Thai restaurant is much harder than I thought. There are so many details involved in running a business — it’s not only about the food.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Because I used to be an employee, I understand how employees feel, and that helps me become a better employer. I believe that being a business owner means understanding every part of the business, especially your employees, because they are the people who grow together with the business
If I had to say something good about myself, I would say that I try to understand not only the customers, but also my employees, because I truly care about their feelings. I want to work with them peacefully while also making customers happy with what I do for them.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like most about this area is the mix of cultures and people. I meet many people from different nationalities who love Thai food, and I can learn a lot from their feedback.
One thing I don’t like is how difficult it is to find the right balance that can satisfy everyone.
