Life & Work with Tim Bowman of Downtown LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Bowman.

Tim, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I had always wanted to live in LA, but I grew up in Tulsa. When I was 19, I joined the Navy for a few years, then moved to Los Angeles when I got off active duty. Once I was there, I started going to every audition I could. After just a few months, I booked my first TV role, Tattoo Nightmares. A few years later, I booked my second one, a guest star on the show DiscoveryID show “Unusual Suspects”. Since then, I’ve appeared on several other television shows, as well as a national Heineken commercial, where I played a very interesting role.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was smooth at the beginning, because I was going to school on the GI Bill, which provided me with a housing allowance as long as I was a fulltime student. After that ran out, I did struggle for a bit, and even had to file bankruptcy at 27. Luckily I’m in a much better place now, both personally and financially.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always considered myself an actor first, and that’s always what I’ve been best at. In the last few years, though, I’ve gotten very into writing, and I’m currently working on finishing my first book. The world may love it or the world may hate it, but I will always love it because it’s the book that I’ve always wanted to read.

That being said, acting will always be my first love, and it’s extremely therapeutic for me. The stage is my true home.

I’ve also written several scripts that I would love to produce. I just need someone to give me a few million dollars.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
When you get to LA, get involved with as many projects as you can, and make as many friends as you can. You never know what personal connection might lead to a professional opportunity, and it’s also important to have friends, especially in such a tough business. LA is big and it can be easy to lose touch with people. Make that extra effort to build and maintain friendships.
