Today we’d like to introduce you to Jade Capasso.
Hi Jade, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, which is full of dark history and ghost stories. A lot of people consider it one of the most haunted places in the world. It’s also where I had my first paranormal experience. I saw what I can only describe as the ghost of a woman floating right in front of me, and ever since then I’ve always wondered how was that possible.
That memory stayed with me growing up and made for a good campfire story but that was all, until 2012 when I moved to Simi Valley, California, and ended up finding this local paranormal community where people would meet up and talk about their experiences. There were investigators, psychics, witches, and I learned a lot from them. I was particularly interested in the paranormal equipment and how it was used to detect the unseen. I’d sit in the back row scribbling down notes in hopes I could make sense of what it was I had seen in Scotland all them years ago.
A few years later, a friend and I took a road trip to South Dakota to see Mount Rushmore, and half jokingly I said we should stay at the most haunted hotels along the way. Somehow she agreed, so I grabbed a camera and filmed the trip, not really expecting much from it. But we actually ended up having some unexplained experiences, and honestly I just fell in love with the thrill of it all. The adrenaline of staying somewhere haunted in an unfamiliar town was what hooked me.
When I got home and started going through the footage, that’s when the idea for Ghost Club Paranormal really started to come together. I started off uploading to YouTube videos where I would travel with friends and investigate haunted places, but it quickly became something much bigger. I’ve been doing it ever since and now have over 100k on YouTube and now I feel like i’m living my own real-life version of Stranger Things.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the beginning, one of the biggest challenge was just trying to figuring everything out on my own. Filming, editing, traveling, learning YouTube, trying to make content over multiple platforms while still balancing life and work outside of it. A lot of people only see the finished episode, but there’s so much that goes into it behind the scenes.
Also, with putting myself out there online publicly, I’m opening myself up to all kinds of criticism. So there have been times of self doubt and burn out. But ultimately, I started this journey for myself, and somewhere along the way, people became invested in that journey too. That’s something I’ll never take for granted, and honestly, it’s one of the biggest reasons I keep going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
With Ghost Club, I wear a lot of different hats behind the scenes. On camera, I’m lead paranormal investigator and main camera operator, Off camera, I do the creative and production side of things which is 90% of the work.
I handle filming, including B-roll and drone work, and I edit the episodes myself, which is a huge part of shaping the atmosphere and storytelling of the channel. I also research locations, coordinate collaborations, book travel, communicate with venues, answer emails, plan shoots, book sponsorships, promote, and manage a lot of the day-to-day creative direction behind the scenes.
On top of that, I stay very involved with the community side through livestreams, interactive games, social media, and creating short-form content for platforms like YouTube and Instagram.
When I started YouTube back in 2020, there really wasn’t a lot of female representation in the paranormal field. Over the last six years I’m proud to have been part of reshaping that narrative and I’m so proud to see more and more younger female led teams popping up on the scene. Ghost club paranormal also recently received YouTube’s platinum award for passing 100k subscribers which is the first award I’ve ever received so that means a lot to me and is a result of my hard work paying off.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Mandy definitely deserves a lot of credit. She joined Ghost Club halfway through and brings a completely different perspective to investigations through her mediumship, which has created some really interesting and emotional moments over the years. I think our different approaches balance each other out well and our viewers have really enjoyed watching our friendship grow in real time.
I also have to give credit to the paranormal community as a whole. One of the best ways to grow and be seen is collaborating with other channels and I’ve made some really close friends through doing so. Along with the audiences who deserve the most credit, for showing up for us and donating allowing us to investigate and film internationally. Their continued support has opened the door to so many opportunities and I can’t thank them enough.
