Today we’d like to introduce you to Nurah A..

Hi Nurah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got interested in film when my High School English teacher gave a video assignment and I’ve been in love with it ever since. I went to college to study film and television production and ended up starting Vagabnd Media Productions by filming projects for journalism students. When I lost funding for school and had to move back home to Los Angeles, I brought Vagabnd Media with me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t smooth. I had to invest a lot in equipment. I wasn’t very confident back then either and set my rates extremely low. I pretty much didn’t get paid for a while. But I have a supportive community that kept me going and kept me in business. This line of work opened up incredible doors for me. So even though I wasn’t paid very well, the networking, connections and experience of the work really paid off.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a visual artist. Most of my credits are in film and photography. I don’t know if I’m particularly known for something specific. I do like shooting in black and white and adding pops of color. I love creating art that captures the essence of relatable experiences.
I think what sets me apart is that I, ironically, don’t always have a camera. I’m not the artist always ready to shoot. I have to remind myself to capture moments because I’m so caught up living in them. I like to be intentional or curated when I create.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
If you don’t make your creative ideas, someone else will. So, move with confidence and fake it if you don’t have any yet.
