Community Highlights: Meet Karen Scott of Soul Embodiment

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Scott.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
There have been many defining moments throughout my life that have led me to the path of service in the holistic wellness industry.

One of the most defining, was losing my mother to cancer. Her short battle with the disease had such long lasting effects on my life that I spent years on what felt a lot like a roller coaster of beautiful highs and painstaking lows. In my desperation to get on steady ground, I began to search for ways to save myself, because as I quickly learned, there was nobody coming to save me. I had only myself to do that.

Ready to roll up my sleeves and embark on my healing journey, I began seeking different forms of healing modalities. I started with therapy, was later introduced to Reiki energy healing, then the floodgates opened and I began working with herbalists, acupuncturists, spiritual healers, indigenous medicine people, and sacred plant medicines. Each one of these practices has played an essential role in my healing, my self-discovery and my work.

As a Certified Life and Wellness Coach, and Reiki and Sound practitioner, I get to show up for my clients not as an expert, but as someone with firsthand experience on what it is to face challenges and overcome them, one breath, one step and one day a time.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Leaving a traditional, comfortable and well-paying career to become a holistic wellness practitioner, has not come without bumps in the road. For one, being your own boss means the success of your business is entirely up to you. Not to mention, working alone can feel lonely when you are used to working with a team of people.

However, one of my biggest strengths is that when it comes to my business, I take a solution-based approach. For instance, whenever an obstacle presents itself I challenge myself to approach it as an opportunity for growth. This always ensures that even if things don’t work out as I’d hoped, I, at least, learned a valuable lesson from the experience.

All this to say, that despite the trials and tribulations, and all uncertainty of being my own boss, getting to do what I love and making a positive impact in the lives of others makes every obstacle and challenge well worth overcoming.

We’ve been impressed with Soul Embodiment, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a Certified Life and Wellness Coach, and Reiki and Sound Healing practitioner, I believe in meeting people where they are, offering them a safe and supportive space where they can work on making sustainable and transformational life changes. I also offer ceremonial experiences for deep connection, relaxation, and restoration of mind and body.

While I work closely with my clients to ensure they receive a tailored coaching and wellness experience based on their specific needs and desired outcomes, the one thing that remains true across the board is that working with me requires that my clients be ready and willing to roll up their sleeves and do the deep inner work that is not always fun and light, but is meant to b impactful and meaningful to their lives.

Since starting my practice in 2018, I have served the cancer community and clientele around the world, have facilitated wellness retreats, and have been a keynote speaker on topics such as, storytelling for healing, understanding the mind-body connection, and the five pillars of whole-person wellness, to name a few.

What I feel sets me apart from others, is that I am as interested in continuing my own healing and transformational work, as I am in helping others achieve the same for themselves.

What I am most proud of, is that I have not fallen into the trap of comparing myself to others in my industry, and, that I remain genuinely and authentically myself.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like most about Los Angeles, is the endless options of eateries and restaurants. My least favorite thing, is the traffic.
