Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanna Shryne.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always been drawn to creating spaces that feel beautiful, thoughtful, and deeply personal. I started my career in interior design over 20 years ago, working for a design firm in Colorado where I gained experience designing model homes, clubhouses, and residential projects across the country.
After moving to Southern California, I eventually launched Shanna Shryne Design. What began as a small studio has evolved into a full-service interior design firm specializing in custom homes, large-scale remodels, and fully furnished residential interiors.
Today, we work on custom residential and commercial projects throughout Los Angeles and in select projects nationwide, creating spaces that feel elevated, timeless, and highly personal to each client. Many of our projects are deeply custom, which is something I love, because it allows us to design spaces that are not only beautiful, but truly tailored to each client’s lifestyle.
Even after all these years, my favorite part of the process is still getting to know our clients and helping shape the way they experience their spaces every day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. Interior design can look glamorous from the outside, but there’s an incredible amount happening behind the scenes, managing construction timelines, coordinating vendors and contractors, balancing budgets, solving unexpected issues, and guiding clients through countless decisions along the way.
One of the biggest lessons for me has been learning how to balance the creative side of design with the realities of running a business. As much as I love creating beautiful spaces, building a successful firm also requires strong communication, organization, leadership, and the ability to keep projects moving thoughtfully and efficiently.
Over the years, I’ve come to realize that great design is about so much more than aesthetics. It’s about problem-solving, understanding how people live, and creating spaces that feel both beautiful and deeply functional. Some of the most rewarding projects are the ones where we’ve been able to navigate challenges collaboratively and ultimately create something even better because of that process.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Shanna Shryne Design?
Shanna Shryne Design is a Southern California-based interior design firm specializing in custom residential interiors, remodels, new construction, furnishings, and select commercial projects. Our work is rooted in creating spaces that feel refined, timeless, and deeply personal to the people living in them.
I’m drawn to interiors that balance beauty with comfort, spaces that feel elevated and intentional, while still being warm and livable. I especially love working with clean architectural lines, natural materials, custom furnishings, thoughtful lighting, and layered details that give a space depth and character.
What sets our firm apart is that we approach every project individually. I never want projects to feel repetitive or trend-driven. Every client has a different lifestyle, personality, and vision for how they want to live, and I believe the design should reflect that authentically. A large part of our process is listening closely, understanding how clients experience their spaces, and translating that into something highly tailored and cohesive.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My best advice is to focus on building genuine relationships and staying curious. Some of the most valuable connections in my career have come from simply being open, asking thoughtful questions, and consistently showing up and doing good work over time.
I also don’t think mentorship always has to be formal. In the design industry, you learn so much through collaboration. I’ve learned from contractors, architects, vendors, other designers, clients, and business owners just by paying attention to how they communicate, solve problems, and navigate challenges.
When it comes to networking, authenticity really matters. People can tell when relationships are transactional. The strongest professional relationships are built naturally over time through trust, collaboration, and mutual respect. I think it’s important to stay connected, support other people’s work, and approach every interaction with professionalism and kindness. Those relationships often end up opening doors in ways you don’t expect.
