Daily Inspiration: Meet Denaya Morris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denaya Morris.

Hi Denaya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first fell in love with dancing. I would participate in dance classes Monday-Friday and dance summer camps at my local dance studio in the Valley. That is where my love for performing grew. Then I transitioned to musical theater, where I have performed in over 9 musicals between 5th and 12th grade. Eventually, I got into the TV and film industry by working on commercials for McDonald’s, Google Pixel, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Ruby Tuesday’s, and Under Armour.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve had a pretty smooth road as far as my career goes. I could say that being raised by a single mother was an obstacle for me, but in reality, I used it as motivation to make her proud of all my work. Making sure that, in all of my accomplishments, she knows it was possibly due to her sacrifices and hard work as well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a nursing major in college. Like most actresses my age, I am still trying to complete my degree while continuing my acting career full-time.. Hoping to obtain my BSN. I have been a caretaker and behavior technician, and in the food industry here and there. My overall passion is to help people, whether that is emotionally through film or physically in a hospital.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My mom, Deanna Morris, has been my biggest mentor when it comes to learning the ropes of the industry. I would recommend living by the saying “closed mouths don’t get fed”. That is how I know to take risks to reach my goals. I interpret this saying in a positive way. Meaning, don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself or to put yourself out there. In this business, you can’t be shy. If anything, embrace all of your personality and creativity.
