Check Out Filip Shobot’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Filip Shobot.

Hi Filip, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I founded Studio Shobot in Belgrade, Serbia, in 2007, and for the past 18 years photography has been both my profession and my way of telling stories through people, emotion, and atmosphere.

What started as a deep passion for visual storytelling slowly grew into an international career that connected me with clients and projects across Europe and the United States. Over the years, I specialized in fashion, portrait, and commercial photography, creating cinematic and emotionally driven imagery for celebrities, artists, brands, and private clients.

A major turning point in my journey happened when my path crossed with Hollywood actor John Savage during his stay in Belgrade. That meeting opened the door to collaborations in Los Angeles and introduced my work to a wider international audience. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work with numerous public figures, musicians, actors, and creatives, while continuing to build Studio Shobot into a recognizable visual brand.

What has always remained most important to me is creating photographs that feel timeless and honest. I believe photography is not only about aesthetics, but also about connection. Every person has a story, energy, and emotion that deserves to be seen in a meaningful way.

Alongside my professional work, my wife Ivana and I have also built a creative family-centered life through art, photography, and storytelling. That balance between artistic vision and real human emotion continues to shape everything I create today.

From Belgrade to Los Angeles, from studio portraits to international campaigns, my journey has always been guided by the same idea: creating images that people can truly feel.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Like many creatives, I experienced periods of uncertainty, financial pressure, and moments where I had to rebuild and reinvent myself professionally.

Starting a studio in 2007 and sustaining it for nearly two decades required constant adaptation. The photography industry changed dramatically over the years with the rise of social media, digital content, and the fast pace of modern visual culture. Staying relevant while remaining true to my artistic identity was one of the biggest challenges.

Another challenge was building an international presence while coming from a smaller market like Serbia. Breaking into larger industries and connecting with clients abroad required persistence, patience, and a strong belief in my work. Opportunities did not come overnight, and many important collaborations happened only after years of dedication and consistency.

There were also personal sacrifices behind the scenes. Photography often demands long hours, travel, creative pressure, and balancing professional life with family life. But in many ways, those experiences shaped me not only as a photographer, but also as a person.

At the same time, every obstacle taught me something valuable. Difficult periods pushed me to grow creatively, improve technically, and develop a deeper understanding of people and storytelling. I learned that success in this industry is not only about talent, but also about resilience, relationships, and the ability to continue creating even during uncertain times.

Today, I appreciate the journey more than ever because every challenge became part of the story behind the work.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in portrait, fashion, and cinematic photography, with a strong focus on creating emotionally driven images that feel both elegant and deeply personal. Over the years, I became especially known for my creative private sessions with actors, artists, and public figures, where the goal is not only to photograph a person, but to reveal something authentic about their character.

What I enjoy most is the creative exploration behind every portrait session. Working with actors is particularly inspiring because of their spontaneity, imagination, and emotional depth. Every actor carries different energies, personalities, and layers within them, and I love pushing creative boundaries to bring those elements into the final image. For me, each session becomes an adventure, a process of discovering how light, emotion, atmosphere, and expression can come together to tell a visual story.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with many remarkable actors and creatives, including John Savage (“The Deer Hunter”), Robert Patrick (“Terminator 2”), Esai Morales (“Mission: Impossible 7 and 8”), Nikola Djuricko (“Stranger Things”), Edward Asner (“Pixar’s Up”), Gary Busey (“Predator 2”), Bruce Davison (“X-Men”), Blanca Blanco (“Tale of Tails”), Sally Kirkland (“JFK”), Candy Clark (“American Graffiti”), Joe Cortese (“American History X”), Harmony McElligott (“Robot Chicken”), G. Anthony Joseph (“Ballerina Assassin”), and George Schroeder (“John Wick 3”).

What I am most proud of is the trust people place in me. Many clients come to me not simply for photographs, but for an experience where they feel comfortable enough to express something real. I believe that is what truly sets my work apart. Technical skill is important, but creating an atmosphere where people feel seen, understood, and creatively free is something much deeper.

I also believe my international perspective shaped my visual identity. Working between Europe and the United States allowed me to combine European cinematic aesthetics with modern commercial storytelling. That balance between artistry and authenticity continues to define my work today.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was deeply fascinated by the world of Hollywood films. From an early age, I was drawn to the atmosphere, emotion, and magic behind cinema. I spent countless hours watching movies and becoming inspired by the characters, storytelling, lighting, and iconic visuals that shaped those worlds.

One of the films that had the biggest impact on me as a child was “Terminator 2.” I watched it over and over again and completely immersed myself in that universe. I even had action figures from the film and created endless imaginary battles between Schwarzenegger and the terrifying T-1000, played by Robert Patrick. As a kid, I was honestly afraid of that character, but at the same time completely fascinated by him.

What feels almost surreal to me today is that many years later, my path crossed with Robert Patrick himself. I ended up photographing him during a private home session in Los Angeles, spending time creatively working together with someone who had once been one of my childhood cinematic fears and inspirations. Moments like that still feel unbelievable to me and remind me how unpredictable and beautiful life can be.

Personality wise, I was always observant and imaginative. Even before photography became my profession, I was naturally focused on people, emotions, details, and the feeling behind a moment. I think that curiosity later became one of the foundations of my work as a portrait photographer.

I never imagined that one day I would photograph Hollywood actors, create portraits in Los Angeles, work on locations connected to films I grew up watching, and meet some of the very people who were once my cinematic heroes.

In many ways, that early love for film still influences everything I create today. My photography is strongly inspired by cinematic storytelling, mood, emotion, and character driven imagery. I still approach many portrait sessions almost like scenes from a movie, searching for authenticity, atmosphere, and something emotionally memorable within the frame.
