Today we’d like to introduce you to Deana Concilio-Lenz.

Hi Deana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?

This Spring Deana launched her first sustainable textile collection partnering with Sun Threads, based out of Los Angeles. Her collection is called, “Lenz Volume I”. This collection blends cinematic storytelling with modern interior design, offering textiles that feel both elevated and livable. These fabrics draw inspiration from New York City neighborhoods, urban landscapes and natural elements found throughout the city.

Drawing from her extensive experience as a former creative director, Deana possesses a keen eye for detail, with a unique focus on illuminating the inherent beauty and architectural framework of every space. Her design journey begins by meticulously assessing the interplay of lighting and spatial elements, laying the foundation for a distinctive and inviting home tailored to her clients’ needs. Deana’s innovative approach challenges conventional norms; rather than starting from the ground up, she orchestrates her designs from the top down, envisioning how each textile and furniture piece will be accentuated by the nuances of light. In her philosophy, each lighting fixture serves as a luminous jewel, casting a radiant glow that elevates the ambiance of the room to unparalleled heights.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
From the day I started my business, my intention was to source pieces for my clients that not only fit their environments, but were also original. One of our ethos at Deana Lenz Interiors, is to source from global makers., thus not one room or project ever looks the same.

I truly believe artisans and their craftmanship is what makes a house a home and these pieces are the perfect opportunity to display who our clients are.

This thoughtful sourcing is not without challenges due to unexpected shipping delays, customs clearances and tariffs. There are some days my team and I can spend an ample amount of time tracking and communicating with our clients due to this delays. The good news is each piece always shows up and they truly add a very special moment to the room.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I started my interior design firm as my second career journey. I was a producer , director and creative director in the music industry. After my mom passed away , I decided to go back to school to get a masters in architecture and decorative artsits. I needed a new direction and purpose.
I had always loved interior design and it is the same creative eye and skill set as directing and producing a music video.

This is why I am known for layering one of a kind lighting in our projects. I love an amazing pair of sconces, a chandelier , a floor lamp and some table lamps all in one room.Lighting is the first element I choose for my clients’ rooms. It begins to tell the narrative of the space and what’s to come. The art of lighting shows how the textiles and the furniture will be lite.

I am also known for mixing design periods. This subscribes to our ethos : not one room or space should feel the same. My projects do not look like they came out of a showroom or catalogue. My education truly taught me the nuances of each design period.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My dear friend, Jessica Gersten who is also an esteemed designer guided me through many situations as well as recommend cleints to me. She started her firm log before I did .

Tomas Hayes, one of La’s brilliant furniture makers told me he knew from the beginning I was going to be good. I call him whenever I need to hear that “you got this” we also have done some one of a kind furniture collaborations together.
