Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Miles.
Hi Cameron, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Oh gosh, where to begin. I had a tough childhood. Family, money, etc wise. It wasn’t easy… and with that, my affinity for music began at a young age. Music was always a backbone for me – something to rely on when the rest of my world seemed to be falling apart. Mac Miller was one of my favorite artists of all time, and a fellow East Coaster as well (I was born and raised in Boston). His music and legacy will forever be something that I hold dearly in my heart and my craft. Back then it was hip hop, alternative, and rock. It still is all that for me… I was not introduced to house music until my entry into LA.
Skipping ahead some time, I moved to Hermosa Beach with my mom from Boston at age 15, going into sophomore year of high school. Weird time to move across country and enter a school where you know no one, I know. I became enamored by electronic music quickly. It’s funny, how people start getting into things earlier in LA than other facets of the country and world. Raving, partying, the love of house music. I had never seen anything like it before, and my friends back home certainly did not experience it until college. I remember my first festival, still in high school. I was immediately hooked.
I didn’t start DJing until my junior year at USC. I would always look up at the DJs at concerts or festivals and think, “man, how cool would that be. To be the curator of all this joy and euphoria that goes down on the dance floor.” I had started messing around with it when studying abroad in Sydney, and then Covid hit. With all the peril that Covid brought, it also had a special power – it gave people the ability to focus on that craft or project that they hadn’t had the time to focus on prior. And thus, I used it to DJ.
At first, it was just house parties. I interned for Justin Jay, a DJ/music producer/USC grad during my senior year of USC and remember throwing the biggest house party of the year with him. I didn’t DJ for anybody outside of my friends and peers for almost 3 years. My parents attended a silent disco festival in Hermosa and told me to reach out to DJ there – so I did. I remember my first public set vividly… I was so anxious, but the crowd loved it. I knew I had something going here. I knew I had to give it a real shot.
I have worked for this same silent disco company (Sunset Vibes Events) for the past 3.5 years, doing their marketing and public relations (booking all their DJs). On top of that, I’ve DJed at every event. But I knew I couldn’t get anywhere just from DJing… I had to produce music as well. So I got into production. I took a course, and spent hours on hours sitting at my computer with absolutely no prior experience or knowledge. I still have a long ways to go, but I am so extremely ecstatic at my most recent tracks and projects.
2025 and now 2026 have been huge for me. Playing at major clubs like Academy that I had only dreamed of playing prior… More music. More content. More gigs… and suddenly, it’s finally clicking. My step dad has stopped telling me “it’s time to find a real job.” Because I’m making it work. And I am having such a ball doing it. House music is one of the strongest forces in the world… it is a complete honor, joy, and privilege to be able to share it with the world 🙂
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think that the fear of failure, and lack of reliable work, have been the biggest stressors in the past 5 years of DJing and producing. It’s an interesting experience, watching all of your friends and peers pick up corporate gigs that pay extremely well after graduation. But I knew that was never my path. The dependency must be nice… the PTO and benefits must be riveting… but it was never for me (even after my step dad’s 657th plea for normal employment).
There have been many times where I’ve considered giving it up, just DJing as a “hobby,” and entering the work force. Using my degree for what it was meant to be used for… But, I am so glad that I never did.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I believe the thing that sets me apart from other DJs and producers (And golly gee, that is hard to do! Everyone is a DJ now) is my 1. absolute love for the music I’m playing and 2. my personality.
As a talent representative for an events company, I have worked with 200+ DJs from the LA area over the past few years. It is wild to me how many of them look like they are having a bad time while DJing. If you are not giving out “this is the best track I’ve ever heard” energy to the crowd, do you think that they are going to be giving it back to you? Stage presence and personality MATTER. You heard it here first. You could be horrible at the actual craft of mixing but still be perceived as a better DJ than a master if you are the biggest hype man behind the decks.
I think I’m really known for that. Energetic stage presence, combined with humor (as applicable as can be) and just an overall aura that makes you want to keep dancing. I love life, and I feel incredibly blessed and grateful to be able to do what I do. I make sure that it shines through.
I am most proud of my most recent gigs. For huge companies like Space Yacht and Code Red, etc… if you had told me 2 years ago that I would be playing these sets in front of these crowds, I would have told you that I made it. That I did the damn thing. It’s easy to get lost in thinking “what’s next” or “what do I have to do to build.” When I really take a moment to pause and look back at what I HAVE done… I am ecstatic.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I think people are most surprised that I am not born and raised in Los Angeles / Southern California. People are always floored when I tell them I’m from Boston… I skate, surf, etc. And definitely have picked up the LA / Socal lingo. So it’s very easy to believe that I was bred here!
