Meet Daria Valiguras of Miami Beach, Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daria Valiguras.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, my name is Daria Valiguras, and I’m a fashion, portrait, and commercial photographer currently based in Miami, focusing on editorials, brand campaigns, product photography, fashion shows, and street style photography.

My creative journey originally started in classical music — I spent 17 years studying piano, which strongly influenced the way I see emotion, rhythm, movement, and atmosphere in visual art today.

When I first started photography, I knew I wanted to immediately focus on fashion and creative photography, so I enrolled in an intensive offline Fashion Photography course at White Photo School in Moscow, Russia. That experience helped me develop a strong understanding of lighting, composition, storytelling, working with models, and building a professional portfolio.

After that, I continued practicing through creative collaborations, personal projects, and commercial shoots, slowly building both my portfolio and professional network. Over time, photography grew from a passion into my full career.

A couple of years later, I decided to move to the United States to continue building my career internationally. Over the last four years living outside of Russia, I’ve been fortunate to build many valuable industry connections and work with multiple brands, designers, model agencies, and talented creatives from different parts of the world.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with fashion events such as Miami Swim Week the Shows while also photographing street style and fashion environments during New York, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks. In recent years, I’ve also been actively developing in videography, drone shooting, and cinematic content creation for brands and social media.

What I love most about photography is the ability to capture not only beauty, but also personality, emotion, energy, and inner character. For me, photography is not just about creating beautiful images — it’s about storytelling and creating visuals people emotionally connect with.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was starting over in a completely new country and rebuilding everything from scratch — connections, clients, reputation, and stability. Moving abroad pushed me far outside of my comfort zone, both personally and professionally.

The creative industry is also extremely competitive, especially in fashion photography. There’s constant pressure to grow, stay creative, adapt to trends, and prove yourself over and over again. In the beginning, I had to balance building a portfolio, networking, learning the business side of photography, and financially supporting myself at the same time.

Another challenge was transitioning from classical music into a completely different creative field. It was exciting, but also scary, because I was leaving something familiar after many years and starting a new path without guarantees.

I also think social media changed the industry a lot. As a photographer today, you’re not only creating art — you also have to be a content creator, marketer, editor, communicator, and business owner all at once. That balance can sometimes be overwhelming.

At the same time, I believe those challenges helped me grow the most. They pushed me to become more adaptable, independent, creative, and confident in my vision and work

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work as a fashion, portrait, and commercial photographer, creating visual content for brands, designers, models, and creative projects. My work includes editorials, fashion campaigns, backstage and runway photography, beauty, product, and street style photography.

I think one of the things that sets me apart is how detail-oriented and perfectionistic I am with my work. I pay a lot of attention to lighting, composition, styling, colors, and overall atmosphere in an image. Many of my clients appreciate that I care deeply about the final result and put a lot of effort into making every image feel polished and visually strong.

I’m also a professional retoucher, which allows me to stay involved not only during the shoot itself, but throughout the entire post-production process. I genuinely enjoy editing and color grading, and I can spend hours refining tones, mood, and details because I believe color and atmosphere play a huge role in storytelling and emotion.

Another big part of my work is photographing in fast-paced environments like fashion shows, backstage, and street style. My clients often appreciate that I work quickly, adapt easily, and naturally capture the right moments in real time. I love documenting genuine movement, emotion, and energy — the moments that make an image feel alive rather than overly staged.

I’m probably most proud of building an international creative career from scratch and continuing to grow in different directions, including videography and drone shooting. For me, creativity is something that constantly evolves, and I always try to push myself artistically while maintaining a strong technical eye and attention to detail.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is realizing how naturally creativity was always part of my life. I spent most of my childhood studying classical piano, but at the same time I also attended art school, so I was constantly surrounded by music, drawing, and creativity from a very young age.

I loved creating little scenes, styling things, and experimenting visually. When I was little, I would dress up our pets and photograph them with my parents’ disposable cameras. I think even back then I was already fascinated by photography and storytelling without fully realizing it.

Later, when I got my first digital camera, I became completely obsessed with creating photos. My school friends even used to call me “the photographer” because I was constantly organizing little photoshoots. We would go outside and create random creative shoots together, or I would hang white bedsheets at home to make a DIY studio setup and photograph people there.

At a pretty young age, I also discovered Photoshop, and I spent countless hours experimenting with editing, colors, retouching, and different visual styles. Looking back now, I realize photography and visual storytelling were always naturally part of who I was long before I considered it a real career.
