Daily Inspiration: Meet Ale Maltez – GLIMR

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ale Maltez – GLIMR.

Ale, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have always had a passion for music and its industry. I loved the way music makes people feel and communicate through sounds. In 2016 I embarked a journey of deciding on studying in the US for my undergrad degree at the University of Florida. I had friends who were part of the music industry and that’s where I learned the basics of djing 101.

When I graduated UF I then moved to Miami and that’s when the real deal started. I bought my first dj table right after going through a breakup. Instead of dying or cutting my hair I dj’d through the pain and I started learning through dj friends and on my own, tricks and all about djing in general. Miami is big on the music scene and connections are everything. I started doing wellness events before night life and some of my first crowds were older. After stepping into night life I was working on my 9-5pm job and djing after work or on weekends. I then started getting invitations for events and becoming a dj influencer which I loved.

I am now djing in Nicaragua, my hometown and still applying everything I learned in the US but I am an international dj open to cultural experience worldwide.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The main struggle that I have experienced is the fact of being a woman in a man’s world. Just as some women feel in a finance role, I have felt excluded in certain gigs or put as an opener dj just because I am a woman and I have had overheard conversations in which men who have hired me have said “she’s a girl she won’t care if she got paid less or put as an opener”.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I dj for both wellness events and nightlife. I am known for being a high energy dj in both spanish and english music. I believe my cultural background and energy sets me apart from others. I tend to make a set playlist before every gig and try to understand the energy in the room. Once I am performing I tend to twist my set according to what the vibes are asking for. Also since I’ve done both US and LATAM I usually mix spanish and english throughout my sets.

What matters most to you? Why?
My shared time with my loved ones. I believe that personal contact is the most intimate form of love there is. Whether it is in a park, in a meeting or a celebration, giving your valuable time to someone else it is what matters the most.
