Meet Jay Hewlett of Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Hewlett.

Jay, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m Jay Hewlett. My artist name is The Gifted Pen. I started writing at a young age. I’m a real estate investor but in 2016, I wanted to take my writing and creative artistry more serious, so I started writing more. I published my first book, “Gifted Beyond Measure” in 2016. I currently have 13 published books. I’m a 5 times Bestselling author. Writing in my true passion and medicine to everything. I also write music, poetry, and spoken-word as well. I’m a recording artist under my artist name The Gifted Pen. I released my first single “Legacy” in spring of 2019. I just recently released my first studio album March 6, 2026 titled “Hewlaxation 13:31.” It’s a Hip-Hop Spoken Word album. I’ve been an ASCAP Member since 2019, I songwrite and produce music as well. My production company is Gifts Of Imagination Productions based here in Los Angeles/Beverly Hills.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started to take my writing and artistry more serious in 2016, It was difficult at first. I didn’t have the resources and tools on how to get published and notoriety. I reached out to a few editors, I finally found a good one. She gave me insight on how to get published independently. I connected with Amazon Publishing and released my first book and all my other books to follow through Amazon Publishing. I then got a great distribution through all the major companies like Barnes&Noble, BooksAMillion, and several others. Including Internationally. I did most of my own research and groundwork to becoming a successful and published author/writer.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a published author/writer/recording artist. Writing is my true passion. Writing and recording spoken word and music is what I specialize in. My most proud moments so far as a creative is being a 5 times bestselling author, and receiving a few plaques for Writing and having one of my spoken word tracks, “Stand Up Black Kings,” to hit 1 million streams last year. I’m truly grateful to my fans, peers, readers, and supporters. My ambition, extreme hardwork, and dedication sets me apart from others.

How do you think about happiness?
Writing is my medicine to everything. I write daily. On different topics or events that happen on that particular day. So writing and creative makes me happy. It’s my sanctuary and peace from everything else. After football, I needed to find a new peace and passion. Writing was always 1B for me, but my ace the past 10 years.
