Check Out Darina David’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darina David.

Hi Darina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Taste of Metals began quite by chance just over two years ago. It started with a simple curiosity toward soldering technique, playing with heat and metal to create a single necklace for personal use. That first piece was a revelation, the process of transforming raw material into wearable art became an immediate addiction.

What began with small rings soon evolved into a marvelous creative journey toward much more ambitious pieces, including handcrafted crowns.

A significant turning point for the brand was the decision to apply these technique to unconventional accessories. By personalizing eyewear with melted metal and crystal tears, a signature aesthetic was born. These sunglasses have now become the definitive bestsellers of Taste of Metals, representing the perfect marriage of avant-garde design and raw texture.

To me, the soldering technique remains a largely unexplored frontier in the world of fashion. I fell in love with the creative freedom it provides, the ability to embrace imperfection and create something rugged, beautiful, and entirely unique.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely been a bumpy road. The artistic field is inherently unpredictable, and the greatest struggle is the constant uncertainty. When you depend entirely on your own brand, you never truly know what the future will bring or how the market will shift.

Navigating that stress is difficult, but I have never been happier. Choosing to follow my heart and lead with passion was the best decision I could have made. Even in the most uncertain moments, the fulfillment of building Taste of Metals makes the struggle worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in jewelry and accessories that I view as wearable pieces of art. Because I work with a specific soldering technique, no two pieces can ever be identical. Every drop of metal is melted by hand, taking its own organic shape in the moment. This means every Taste of Metals customer owns a one-of-a-kind creation that can never be exactly replicated, it is theirs and theirs alone.

What I am most proud of is the freedom to create and the incredible community that has grown around my work. I affectionately call my supporters “my Baddies” on Instagram, and their energy is the heartbeat of the brand. They are constantly bringing me inspired ideas for custom orders, and there is no greater feeling than working with people who truly understand and trust my artistic vision.

We are slowly building a community of individuals who use style to express themselves freely. We aren’t afraid to be themselves or to stand out, and seeing others wear my art as a symbol of that confidence is the ultimate reward.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Fashion is a constant source of inspiration for me, and I’ve built an extensive collection of Vogue Italia over the years. I find the editorial photography and the avant-garde styling in those archives incredibly influential for my creative vision.

However, many of my most successful designs were born from a much more visceral place. I often find that my best work happens when I simply take the metal in my hands and start modeling it with no preconceived idea or sketch. There is a specific magic in letting the material dictate its own form.
