Life & Work with Linn Holmes of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linn Holmes.

Linn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Linn Holmes is a Los Angeles-based singer and songwriter. Known for her work as an artist, session singer, performing and recording background vocals for a vast variety of bands and artists, Linn has become a household name in the Los Angeles rock scene. Mixing the influences of her mother’s time singing gospel and her fathers love for Rock ’n Roll – acts such as the Allman Brothers Band, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Raitt and Fleetwood Mac came to shape her
sound. Linn started singing before she could walk – joining her mother in gospel choir as a baby and moving on to performing in choirs herself, singing in harmony with others has always been at the core of her life. She began singing choirs at the age of 3 and performed her first tv performance at the age of 4, then just kind of kept going from there.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s been struggles no doubt. It’s a tough business to be in and it takes a lot to keep going. Doing what we do can be absolutely amazing, but also devastating at times. When you put so much heart into a product or into your work (regardless of what it is), it makes you very vulnerable. I will say though, I’ve been blessed to be in an amazing community of musicians and to work with such a supportive team, they’ve gotten me through everything. It is so important to have a support system. I feel very grateful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a singer and songwriter, originally from Sweden but based in LA. I’d describe my music as a mix of blues/rock and mom rock. I do love a gritty 90s banger. On May 15th I’m releasing my next single “Juliana” – a high-speed rock banger fueled by Motown soul and 90s grit. What I hope to become a scream-at-the-top-of-your-lungs anthem for the drive home.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Honestly, to focus on your art and let that be the core of what you do. Don’t loose your joy in it. Surround yourself with people that encourage, support and respect you and your vision.
