Check Out Matthew Alicea’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Alicea.

Hi Matthew, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started out bouncing around a few bands. When I finally settled one we got ready to book some gigs and O got us one at Que Sera in Long Beach. But my band members backed out. So I decided to organize the show myself. The show went on to be a success so I decided to continue organizing shows. A few shows later, i decided to get into management and hooked up with a buddies band Love And Other Demons and have been helping them with their back end work and even linked up with Alex and Edgar of Boulevard Gastropub and Beer Thugs Brewpub as event coordinator. So now I am operations manager for Love and Other Demons and event coordinator for Beer Thugs Brewpub.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road, lots of problems and difficulties to overcome come. From not having enough equipment, being yelled at by bands, bands dropping out last minute, shows with empty venues, bands telling me how to do my job or run my shows. So many issues to overcome come.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in organizing shows and connecting bands with business contacts.

I’m most proud of all my work, coming from a diy place of idk but I’ll figure it out and seeing the end result of having a show and people coming out and having fun. Even for Love And Other Demons the shows we’ve had and the place we get to be is always rewarding.

What matters most to you?
Seeing people have fun at my show. Seeing the joy, my hard work brings to other people.
