Meet Katin Cox of Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katin Cox.

Hi Katin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got started in the floral industry when I was 16 years old delivering flowers for a small mom-and-pop flower shop. Although I originally started with deliveries, I quickly became interested in the design side of floristry and began learning floral design about a year later. From there, I progressed pretty quickly, started freelancing, and continued developing my own style and approach to design.

After moving to Hawaii, I was exposed to a lot of traditional floral design techniques and learned the importance of intentionality, balance, and craftsmanship within arrangements. That experience really shaped the way I approach floristry today. I like to describe Katin Floral as a blend of traditional and non-traditional design — combining organic movement, unique textures, and refined styling to create work that feels elevated, modern, and personal.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Floristry is a very competitive and often oversaturated industry, especially with how much social media has changed the game. You can have years of experience and still struggle to consistently find clients or stand out online. A lot of people only see the final product and don’t always realize how physically demanding, time consuming, and expensive flowers can actually be behind the scenes.

One of the biggest challenges for me personally was learning to become confident in my pricing and understanding the value of my work. When you first start out, it can be difficult to charge what your work is truly worth, especially in a creative industry where comparison is constant. Over time, I’ve learned that confidence, consistency, and developing a strong point of view creatively are just as important as technical skill.

I think every challenge along the way has helped shape me both creatively and professionally, and it’s made me much more intentional about the kind of work and experience I want Katin Floral to represent.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in weddings, editorial-inspired arrangements, installations, and custom floral work for events and brands. A lot of my inspiration comes from coastal California, fashion editorials, and the balance between structured design and natural movement. I love creating pieces that feel emotional and memorable rather than overly traditional.

What I’m most proud of is building Katin Floral from the ground up at a young age while continuing to grow creatively and professionally with every project. I’ve worked hard to develop a point of view that feels authentic to me, and I think what sets my work apart is the combination of traditional floral training with a more contemporary, design-forward perspective. I want people to feel something when they see my work — not just see flowers, but see artistry, intention, and personality behind every arrangement.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is honestly something really simple — playing in the dirt with my brother for hours outside. He would have all of his toy cars and trucks, and I would bring my Barbie dolls, and somehow we would create entire little worlds together. Looking back, it’s one of those memories that feels really nostalgic because it reminds me of such a carefree and imaginative time in life.
