Community Highlights: Meet Saba Melketsadik of Nomi Medical Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Saba Melketsadik.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Nomi Medical Studio was born from a desire to care for women in a more personal, thoughtful, and unhurried way. As a Certified Nurse Midwife and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner, I spent years caring for women in both the hospital and clinic settings, supporting them through some of the most vulnerable and transformative moments of their lives. While I loved the work deeply, I often felt there was not enough time or space to truly address the full picture of women’s health, especially when it came to hormones, aging, wellness, confidence, and overall well-being.
Growing up in Ethiopia surrounded by incredibly strong women, I witnessed firsthand the power that comes from women supporting one another and being reminded of their strength and potential. There was something deeply fulfilling to me about seeing women feel empowered, confident, and truly seen. Even at a young age, I loved listening to women’s stories, encouraging them, making them feel beautiful, and helping them recognize their worth without judgment.
As I got older, I realized my passion was never just about healthcare or aesthetics alone. It was always about empowering women in whatever way they needed at that moment in their lives. Whether that meant helping a woman believe in herself enough to deliver her baby, supporting her through fear and vulnerability, helping her regain confidence after struggling with obesity, or helping her feel like herself again when aging made her no longer recognize the face staring back at her in the mirror, I wanted to be there for women in every way possible. I truly believe my calling is to care for women with compassion, empathy, and genuine tender loving care. Looking back now, it feels only fitting that I created a space that combines feeling good inside and out. I have always been drawn to women’s health, beauty, fashion, and confidence because to me they are all deeply connected.
I started Nomi Medical Studio with the vision of creating a space where women feel heard, cared for, empowered, and understood as individuals. The name “Nomi” has a special meaning to me. It comes from the phrase “Know Me,” reflecting the heart of the practice: personalized care that honors every patient’s unique experience and goals. It is also deeply personal because I created the name using two letters from each of my children’s names, Noah and Amina, who continue to inspire me every day.
To be honest, I never imagined myself owning a business. What gave me the courage to take that leap was the trust my patients placed in me over the years. The relationships I built with them, the stories they shared with me, and the feedback I received about the care they experienced made me realize that maybe I could create something of my own that reflected the way I truly wanted to care for women.
What I underestimated, though, was how different it is to be a great clinician versus being a business owner. Caring for patients came naturally to me. Running a business did not. The marketing, operations, finances, and endless behind-the-scenes responsibilities were overwhelming at times. Believe it or not, one of the hardest adjustments for me early on was the exchange of money for care. For over 15 years, I worked within large hospital systems where I never had to think about billing, pricing, or asking patients for payment. My focus was always simply caring for people.
One thing I realized early on is that I care so deeply about this work that sometimes it did not even feel like a job to me. Honestly, if life allowed it, I could see myself doing this work for free. Being able to support women, help them heal, regain confidence, feel heard, or simply feel like themselves again fills my heart in a way I cannot fully explain. Whether I was helping a woman bring life into the world, navigate hormonal changes, overcome insecurities, or reconnect with herself after years of putting everyone else first, those moments never felt transactional to me. They felt deeply personal and meaningful. I think that is why learning the business side of medicine was such an emotional adjustment for me. At my core, I have always simply wanted to care for people.
There were many moments of self-doubt and exhaustion. Moments where I questioned if I could truly carry the weight of being a business owner while also being a mother, wife, daughter, immigrant, Black woman, and full-time healthcare provider while building this business. But when I look back, I also feel incredibly proud. Proud of having the courage to build something from the ground up. Proud of creating a space that reflects who I am and how I believe women deserve to be cared for. As an immigrant and a woman of color, there were many moments where this dream felt intimidating, but I hope my journey reminds other women that it is possible to create something meaningful even when the path feels uncertain.
Today, Nomi Medical Studio focuses on hormone therapy, medical weight loss, and medical aesthetics with an emphasis on evidence-based medicine and whole-person wellness. More than anything, I want Nomi to feel like a safe, welcoming, and empowering space where women feel comfortable asking questions, prioritizing themselves, and showing up exactly as they are without judgment. Seeing patients regain their confidence, energy, sleep, and sense of self continues to remind me why I started this journey in the first place.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges was realizing that being a great clinician does not automatically make you a great business owner. When I opened Nomi, I quickly learned that I was not just the provider. I am also the receptionist, social media manager, marketer, supply orderer, bookkeeper, IT person, phlebotomist, and the housekeeper.
I still laugh thinking about one of my patients complimenting how spotless Nomi always is and asking who cleans the office because “they do such a great job keeping the white floors clean.” Little did she know, she was talking to the housekeeper. I still wear many hats today because I had to do whatever I could to keep overhead low and keep the dream alive.
As most business owners know, the first two to three years are usually not profitable, so there is a lot of sacrifice behind the scenes that people do not always see. Balancing all of that while being a full-time healthcare provider, mother, wife, and business owner has been exhausting at times. There were definitely moments of self-doubt, but those struggles taught me resilience and made me appreciate how much heart and sacrifice truly goes into building something from the ground up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Nomi Medical Studio is a boutique women’s wellness and medical aesthetics practice focused on helping women feel healthy, confident, and seen at every stage of life. We specialize in hormone therapy, medical weight loss, skin health, and medical aesthetics with an evidence-based and highly personalized approach to care.
What sets Nomi apart is that we truly take the time to listen. I think many women are used to feeling dismissed, rushed, or told their symptoms are “normal,” especially when it comes to hormones, aging, weight changes, fatigue, or overall wellness. At Nomi, I wanted to create a space where women feel comfortable asking questions, being vulnerable, and knowing they are cared for as a whole person, not just a chart or diagnosis.
One thing I am especially proud of brand-wise is that Nomi has remained deeply personal and authentic to who I am. The name itself comes from “Know Me,” because I wanted patients to feel truly known and understood. It is also created from my children’s names, Noah and Amina, which makes it even more meaningful to me. Every detail of the business reflects my heart behind it.
I also think patients connect with the fact that I approach care from both a medical and human perspective. As someone who still works in the hospital setting while building this business, I bring years of clinical experience into a more intimate and personalized environment. My goal has never been to create a space that feels intimidating or clinical, but instead warm, welcoming, and empowering.
More than anything, I want readers to know that Nomi is about helping women reconnect with themselves. Whether that is through balancing hormones, improving metabolic health, supporting healthy aging, or helping someone feel confident in their skin again, everything we do comes from a place of compassion, education, and genuine care.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
These days, I honestly do not have as much time to sit down and read as I would like to, so podcasts have become my favorite way to learn and reset, especially during drives between work, Nomi, and family life. I love podcasts that combine personal growth, mindset, health, and honest conversations about life.
Some of my favorites are The Diary Of A CEO, You Are Not Broken, The Mel Robbins Podcast, and Unpaused.
