Life & Work with Nicholas Horne of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Horne.

Hi Nicholas, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Los Angeles and was always drawn to photography. I started taking courses in college for fun and eventually switched my major to photography. While on a break from school I got a job working at Mammoth mountain as I was an avid skier. While there I befriended a fashion photographer and started assisting him in Los Angeles and eventually all over Europe. I went out on my own living briefly in New York but eventually came back to Los Angeles where I have been based ever since.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall it has been great but there were a few bumps along the way. A large client went bankrupt, a slow economy, but I have been able to rebound.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photographer who has worked in the fashion industry but specializes in beauty and health. I also do commercial advertising and fine art for my own enjoyment. I am mostly known for my beauty work as I have a clean, energetic, natural style that works well with beauty. I think that is also what sets me apart others. The mood and feeling I am able to convey is unique to my perspective. I’ve been told I have a Southern California feel. The work I am most proud of would be the editorials I have shot for magazines.
