Hi Lishma, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in London, my love for makeup and henna started at a very young age. I was always involved in dance performances and stage shows, and naturally became the person everyone turned to for hair and makeup. What began as a creative hobby quickly turned into a true passion. After graduating in Computer Science and Business Information Systems from university in the UK in 2001, I moved to California and officially launched Beauty By Lishma.
Beauty By Lishma was built through passion, hard work, and word of mouth. My goal was always to create more than just beautiful makeup — I wanted clients, especially brides, to feel confident, comfortable, and truly cared for during some of the most important moments of their lives. Over time, the business grew into a full-service bridal beauty brand specializing in hair, makeup, henna, and saree draping, serving clients throughout California, across the USA, and globally for destination weddings.
As the business evolved, I continued refining my craft through advanced training with brands and artists such as M.A.C. Cosmetics, Makeup Forever, Cinema Secrets, and renowned Bollywood makeup artist Mickey Contractor. While I’m trained in everything from full glam to stage makeup, my signature style has always been soft, timeless “no makeup” makeup that enhances natural beauty rather than covering it. That personalized approach has truly become my niche and one of the reasons clients from all over the world continue to book with me.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on bridal fashion shows, photo shoots, dance productions, and with celebrities such as Raveena Tandon and Shreya Ghoshal. What I’m most proud of, though, is that Beauty By Lishma has grown organically through trust, relationships, and referrals from generations of clients. Looking back, it’s amazing to see how a passion I discovered as a young girl in London turned into a career that allows me to be part of such meaningful moments in people’s lives every day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely has not always been a smooth road. Moving from another country — even from a modern city like London — came with its own challenges. The beauty industry here had a very different style, culture, and way of doing things. One of the biggest challenges was finding my place within the local vendor circles and industry “clicks.” As someone who has always tried to stay true, honest, and authentic, navigating those dynamics was not always easy.
Thankfully, being a naturally social person helped me build genuine relationships over time. I made a conscious decision early on to stay away from industry politics and instead focus on creating my own space through loyalty, professionalism, and consistency. The beauty industry can definitely be competitive, and when you are younger in your career, criticism and competition can feel very personal. There were moments when I felt overlooked or discouraged, but those experiences also helped me grow stronger and more confident in myself and my work.
Over the years, I’ve learned the importance of knowing my worth and staying true to who I am as both an artist and a person. Today, I’m proud to say that clients book me not only for my talent, but also because they genuinely connect with my energy, honesty, and approach. One thing that has always been important to me is authenticity — I do not publish fake or overly edited work. The makeup and artistry my clients see online is exactly how it looks in person, and I believe that honesty and consistency are a big part of why people continue to trust and support Beauty By Lishma.

I’m very passionate about creating a respectful and supportive environment for my artists. I believe in treating my team well, paying them fairly, and providing organized timelines and schedules so both the artists and clients feel comfortable and stress-free throughout the process. Mutual respect is very important to me, and I strive to work with clients who value and appreciate the artistry behind what we do.
We specialize in hair, makeup, saree draping, henna, and complete bridal beauty services. What sets us apart is that we provide everything under one brand, making the experience seamless and convenient for clients. I also personally create beauty timelines and schedules alongside planners to help every event run smoothly.
