Today we’d like to introduce you to Audy.
Hi Audy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My path to starting Hoofbeats Equine Wellness was personal.
For more than 20 years, I have lived with fibromyalgia, and like many people navigating chronic pain, I spent years searching for therapies that offered any kind of pain relief. When I first came across the Electro-Equiscope, what caught my attention were case studies describing improvements in people struggling with fibromyalgia symptoms. It had been a long time since I had come across anything that seemed to offer considerable support for chronic pain management, so naturally, I wanted to learn more.
The deeper I looked into the science and real-world applications of microcurrent, the more fascinated I became. What began as curiosity for my own health quickly grew into something much bigger: a desire to connect this technology with my knowledge and experience working with horses. The idea that a therapy could support the body’s natural ability to regulate, recover, and rejuvenate resonated deeply with me—not only personally, but professionally.
For many years, I had the privilege of working alongside incredible equine veterinarians in both ambulatory and hospital settings, caring for horses through everything from routine care to emergencies. Horses have always held a special place in my life, and I knew I wanted to continue working with them in a meaningful way—one that still felt connected to the veterinary field and the healing process.
Starting my business allowed me to do just that. Through a combination of my lived experiences, a passion for helping horses through difficult times, and advanced therapeutic technology, I am able to support and care for them like never before. The Electro-Equiscope is a specialized microcurrent device that detects abnormal tissue responses and helps restore healthy electrical patterns. At the heart of it all is a simple goal: to help horses feel better, function better, and have a science-backed modality that supports them through their recovery process.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
One of the biggest struggles I’ve had so far has been social media—hands down. Posts, stories, reposts, reels, memes… the list feels endless! As a small business owner, you quickly realize you’re expected to wear a lot of hats, and for a while, I tried to do it all myself.
Eventually, I realized that social media just wasn’t my thing, and that’s okay. I finally hired someone to manage my accounts, and honestly, I’m so glad I did. It took me a while to get to that point, but it taught me an important lesson: you can’t do everything on your own, and sometimes the best thing you can do for your business is bring in people whose strengths complement your weaknesses.
I’ve learned that building a business isn’t about being great at everything—it’s about recognizing where you thrive, where you need support, and creating a team that helps move your vision forward. I would rather spend my energy helping horses and connecting with clients than stressing over algorithms and content calendars!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What I do is provide a mobile microcurrent therapy service for horses using the Electro-Equiscope, and with the goal of supporting comfort, recovery, mobility, and overall wellness. Every session is individualized because no two horses are the same. Whether I’m working with a performance horse, an aging horse needing extra support, or a horse recovering from an injury, my approach is always centered around what that horse needs in that moment.
I think what I’m becoming known for is taking a thoughtful, individualized approach and truly listening—to both the horse and the owner. Horses are incredible communicators if we slow down enough to pay attention, and I pride myself on taking the time to understand the bigger picture. My experience in the veterinary field allows me to bring a deeper understanding of equine anatomy, movement, behavior, and overall health to each session, which helps me approach horses with both a therapeutic and practical lens. I look at the whole horse, the environment, and the goals of the owner and veterinarian to help create the best possible support plan.
My favorite part of this work is that I am able to actually witness in real-time a horse relax and become more comfortable. Examples of this are when their eyes soften, or their lips become droopy, or tension in their muscles melt away, or really any kind of release like a yawn, stretch, or fart…it never gets old!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
If I could give one piece of advice to someone just starting out, it would be this: don’t feel like you have to have everything figured out before you begin. Starting a business can feel overwhelming, and it’s easy to think everyone else knows exactly what they’re doing—but the truth is, most of us are learning as we go.
One thing I wish I knew earlier is that you don’t have to do everything yourself. As a small business owner, you naturally want to be in control of everything and wear all the hats, especially in the beginning. But learning when to ask for help and bringing in people with strengths different from your own is incredibly valuable. For me, that lesson definitely came through struggling with social media and eventually realizing it was okay to hand that off to someone better suited for it.
I would also say: don’t underestimate the value you bring to the table. Many small businesses are built around solving a problem that didn’t previously have a clear solution. Sometimes the very thing that makes your business meaningful and successful is that you have been on a different path than others. You bring an understanding of a need, a unique skill set, and a passion for the work that not everyone has—and that matters. Stay connected to your “why.” There will be hard days, moments of self-doubt, and times when things feel overwhelming, but remembering why you started in the first place can make all the difference.
