Conversations with Em Davila

Today we’d like to introduce you to Em Davila.

Hi Em, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started singing at four years old and performing at five, beginning with the Glory of Christmas at the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, California. From there, I loved performing in musical theater, talent shows, and singing local National Anthems throughout the Inland Empire.

My mom and grandma influenced me musically for as long as I can remember with great artists like Luther Vandross, Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone, Patsy Cline and Alicia Keys. With such an eclectic taste in music, I began songwriting at age twelve and knew I wanted to become an artist.

I started recording at fourteen and began building a catalog of my own music. During high school, I switched from regular vocal lessons to opera training, and I don’t know where I would be today as both a singer and an artist without those three years of experience.

At eighteen, I finally began releasing music on all streaming platforms with my first single, “Unstoppable” which reached 50k streams. Currently, I have released eight singles and an EP titled, “THIS IS TOO MUCH” and I’m excited to release my new song, “Limited Edition” in June 2026.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It certainly has not been a smooth road, but I can say that I am grateful for the outcomes that came along with those challenges. Growing up, I was bullied in school, even by directors in high school. That was the craziest part. Thinking you have someone safe to go to when you’ve accomplished something great, only to be torn down, yelled at, and humiliated in front of your peers for something we had been training for.
Another challenge I faced was my love life, and as many women can relate, the dating pool was shallow and the bar was at an all time low. I would never take away any of my experiences or past relationships because they made me who I am today and honestly fueled me to write music that I know helps others get through their own experiences.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an R&B/Pop artist and singer-songwriter. I started playing piano around the age of twelve, and I instantly fell in love with composing songs. I specialize in harmonies and love experimenting with different chord progressions to create music that makes listeners feel fully immersed in the song. Songwriting is both fun and therapeutic for me. Sometimes I start with lyrics and then find chord progressions on the piano to match the mood, while other times I begin with the music first.
I am known for my vocal range, songwriting abilities, producing my own demos, and playing piano. I also love performing live shows in Los Angeles, and every opportunity I get to perform there is always an amazing experience.
I am proud of how much I’ve grown creatively and personally throughout the last seven years of my music journey. Being able to create songs that reflect my emotions while also helping others feel understood is incredibly special to me. Knowing my music can connect with people on a personal level means more to me than numbers ever could.
I’m also proud to be an independent artist in this industry. Although it can be a difficult journey, I love having creative control over everything I create and own musically. One experience I’m especially proud of was performing the National Anthem for the LA Clippers. That moment felt surreal and was truly unforgettable.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to write 100% of my own music, play piano, and sing live on stage all at the same time.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was performing in The Glory of Christmas at the Crystal Cathedral. It was one of the best experiences of my life. I performed a solo in the show for four years on a huge stage surrounded by talented musicians, dancers, and even live animals.
They would bring in real camels, and I remember walking my little legs up those enormous stairs during my solo, feeling both terrified to be near them and completely amazed at the same time. It was such an exhilarating experience. The show also featured dancers dressed as angels who would fly across the cathedral, which made everything feel magical and unforgettable.
