Meet Amy Garcia of West LA Santa Monica

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Garcia.

Hi Amy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey in permanent makeup began in 2017 when I, Amy Garcia, first entered the world of Microblading with a passion for beauty, artistry, and helping people feel more confident in their own skin. What started as a deep interest in aesthetics quickly turned into a career after I saw how transformative permanent makeup could be—not just physically, but emotionally for clients as well.

Over the past 10 years, I’ve dedicated myself to mastering advanced permanent makeup and cosmetic tattoo techniques including Microblading, Nano Brows, Combo Brows, eyeliner and lash line enhancement, lip blush, and scalp and facial micropigmentation. As my experience and passion for restorative work grew, I expanded into paramedical tattooing, adding skin, scar, and stretch mark camouflage with pigment, as well as ink-less rejuvenation treatments and areola re-pigmentation to my repertoire. My focus has always been on creating natural, confidence-boosting results while continuing to evolve with the latest techniques and education in the industry.

As the industry evolved, so did my business. What started as a small passion project grew into a recognized permanent makeup studio serving clients throughout Los Angeles, Orange County, and beyond. Today, I not only work with clients, but also mentor and train aspiring artists through private education and hands-on training programs. As my clientele continued to grow throughout Southern California, I expanded by opening a second studio, Microblading Newport Beach
, to better serve my Orange County clients with the same luxury experience and personalized approach my brand is known for.

One of the biggest parts of my journey has been creating a luxury experience centered around trust, artistry, and authenticity. I believe permanent makeup should enhance—not overpower—someone’s natural beauty, and that philosophy has helped shape the reputation of my brand today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Like many small business owners, the journey definitely came with challenges along the way. In the beginning, one of the biggest struggles was learning how to market and grow my business while building a loyal clientele from the ground up. When I first started in the permanent makeup industry, there wasn’t as much guidance available on business development, advertising, or social media strategy the way there is today. I had to learn through experience, consistency, and a lot of trial and error while continuing to perfect my craft.

Another major challenge came years later during the pandemic, when the beauty industry faced mandatory shutdowns and operations were temporarily paused. Like many business owners, it was an uncertain and difficult time. Instead of standing still, I used that period as an opportunity to invest in myself and my business by furthering my online education, expanding my knowledge in advanced permanent makeup and paramedical tattooing techniques, and preparing for the next phase of growth.

Looking back, those challenges ultimately helped shape the business into what it is today. They taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of continuously evolving—not only as an artist, but as an entrepreneur as well.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As an artist in the permanent makeup and paramedical tattoo industry, my work goes far beyond beauty—it’s about restoration, confidence, and creating results that feel natural and empowering for each client. Every face, skin type, and story is different, which is what makes this career so rewarding creatively. I approach each procedure with a balance of technical precision and artistry, whether I’m creating soft Nano Brows, performing lip blush, scalp micropigmentation, or corrective and restorative tattoo work.

One of the things I love most about this industry is that it constantly evolves. Trends, techniques, pigments, and technology are always advancing, which pushes me to continue learning and refining my skills. I’ve dedicated years to advanced education and hands-on experience so I can offer clients both cosmetic and paramedical services at a high level.

I also love being able to blend luxury beauty with restorative work. Procedures like scar camouflage, ink-less rejuvenation, and areola re-pigmentation can have a deep emotional impact on clients, and being trusted with that process is something I never take lightly. My goal has always been to create work that enhances someone’s natural features while helping them feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin.

Beyond working with clients, mentoring and educating aspiring artists has become another fulfilling part of my career. Being able to share knowledge, help others grow in the industry, and contribute to raising standards within permanent makeup has been incredibly rewarding.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
One of the biggest pieces of advice I would give to anyone starting out in the permanent makeup industry is to not overwhelm yourself by trying to learn everything at once. It’s easy to feel pressured to take multiple trainings and offer every service immediately, but mastering PMU takes time, patience, and consistency.

I always tell new artists to focus on the fundamentals first—really learn the theory, understand skin, pigment, healing, and technique, and allow yourself time to grow confidently in one service before moving on to the next. Start with one procedure, perfect it to the best of your ability, and build a strong foundation before expanding into additional services. In this industry, quality and healed results matter far more than trying to do everything all at once.

I think one of the most important things I’ve learned throughout my journey is that growth comes with experience. Beautiful, long-lasting results are created through repetition, education, attention to detail, and genuinely caring about your clients. Trust the process, stay consistent, and never stop learning.
