Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Emery.
Hi Andre, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m Andre Emery, a fashion designer and creative director originally from the Bronx, New York, now based in Los Angeles. I moved to LA in 2012 to study fashion design and pursue a bigger vision for myself creatively. Growing up in a Jamaican household taught me discipline, work ethic, and how important it is to build something meaningful from the ground up, and those values still shape how I approach my brand today.
I founded Andre Emery in 2017 with the goal of creating pieces that blend luxury, streetwear, and avant-garde fashion while still feeling personal and emotional. What started as a passion for design slowly evolved into a full creative world centered around storytelling, craftsmanship, and individuality. A lot of my work is inspired by movement, culture, music, tailoring, and the people around me.
Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to create custom pieces for artists, performers, editorials, and red carpet moments, with my designs being worn by talents including Stevie Wonder, Alina Baraz, and others. Seeing my garments connect with people on a global level has been surreal, especially considering how independently the brand was built.
One thing that’s really important to me is keeping the human side of fashion alive. I work closely with a small team in Los Angeles, many of whom come from immigrant backgrounds like my family, and that sense of community, hard work, and collaboration is a huge part of the brand’s identity. Beyond clothing, I’m interested in building culture, creating experiences, and inspiring people to believe in their ideas even when they’re starting from nothing.
I still feel like I’m evolving every day creatively. Whether I’m designing, styling, directing shoots, sewing pieces myself, or building new ideas for the future, I’m always trying to push the brand forward while staying true to who I am and where I came from.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. Building a brand independently comes with a lot of ups and downs, especially in fashion. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to balance creativity with the business side of things while continuing to believe in myself during slower seasons.
There were times where I was creating constantly behind the scenes without immediate recognition, but I kept pushing forward and trusted the process. Moving from New York to Los Angeles and building a brand from scratch also taught me a lot about resilience, consistency, and patience.
I’ve learned that timing plays a huge role in this industry. Some of my biggest opportunities and most recognized pieces came years after they were originally created. Every obstacle has helped shape both me and the brand into what it is today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a fashion designer and creative director specializing in luxury streetwear, avant-garde fashion, and custom garments. Through my brand, Andre Emery, I focus on creating pieces that feel expressive, cinematic, and deeply personal while still maintaining strong craftsmanship and tailoring.
A lot of what I’m known for is my attention to detail, custom work, and the emotional storytelling behind my designs. I’ve had the opportunity to create pieces worn by artists and public figures including Stevie Wonder and Tinashe, which has been incredibly rewarding as an independent designer.
What I’m most proud of is building the brand from the ground up and continuing to evolve creatively while staying authentic to myself. I work closely with a small team in Los Angeles, and I still stay heavily involved in the design, styling, creative direction, and even sewing process. I think what sets me apart is that my work comes from real life experiences, culture, and emotion rather than simply following trends.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about Los Angeles is the creativity and diversity. There are so many people here chasing ideas, building brands, creating art, and pushing culture forward, which constantly inspires me as a designer. LA gave me the space to grow creatively and turn my vision into a real business.
I also love how connected fashion, music, entertainment, and art are here. You never know who you might meet or what opportunity might come from simply being outside and networking.
One thing I like least is probably how fast-paced and overwhelming the city can sometimes feel. It’s easy to get caught up in comparison or constantly feeling like you have to keep up. But over time, I’ve learned how important it is to stay grounded, focus on my own path, and appreciate the journey.
