Meet Destiny Preston of Encinitas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Preston.

Hi Destiny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Los Angeles. I’m a fourth-generation Angeleno and was born in Hollywood, at the same hospital where my mom was born. My family has roots in Echo Park dating back to the 1940s, and growing up adjacent to Elysian Park gave me a deep appreciation for Los Angeles and its rich beauty, wellness, and creative culture.

I was fortunate to visit Encinitas in North County San Diego for the first time in 1994 because my aunt, uncle, and younger cousin decided to relocate to this area. My dad and other immediate family members moved to North County in the early 2000s, so San Diego County has always been a second home for me. I eventually followed and am grateful to have established my small business in Encinitas, while staying connected to Los Angeles through occasional pop-ups in Beverly Hills.

Growing up, my single mom worked very long hours to give me a better life. She found respite through beauty and a wide variety of personal treatments. I remember visiting her hair salon and brow studio in Beverly Hills and the sense of support that gave her, the radiance she was then able to carry into her everyday life. I was mesmerized by these experiences and the impact they had on her. I loved meeting beauty professionals and looked up to successful providers in the high-end luxury Los Angeles beauty industry. When my mom and I had to go to a department store, I would wander away to the makeup counters, trying everything, eager to learn. My love of beauty and the way it can transform someone’s confidence and how they show up in the world started when I was 8 years old and it’s something I’ve carried with me to this day.

As a 17-year-old, I decided to go to beauty school, and I started working in the industry right away in high-end salons in Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. I learned so much from working under celebrity stylists, and this caliber of service is something I have built into my current business.

Years later, I expanded my expertise to include advanced aesthetics and clinical lymphatic care. Today, my practice focuses on results-driven facials, age-defying treatments, and manual lymphatic drainage to help clients look and feel their absolute best. I am focused on excellence and delivering elevated experiences that utilize medical-grade skincare combined with luxury botanical products.

I’m proud to serve women seeking results-oriented care in Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, Solana Beach, Del Mar, La Jolla, and Beverly Hills.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have always had an insatiable desire to learn and grow. This led me to pursue two bachelor’s degrees from UC Berkeley and a master’s degree from UCLA. I studied environmental policy and planning as I sought out ways to make the world a better place. This led me toward a career in government and serving on numerous nonprofit and governmental boards.
At the same time, my passion for beauty never left me.
I started beauty school in 2007 and began working in the beauty industry nearly two decades ago, so while my public policy career became my primary professional path for many years, aesthetics has always remained part of my identity.

It definitely hasn’t been a linear path. Reinventing myself professionally, balancing entrepreneurship alongside a demanding career in government, and building a business from the ground up has required resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to take risks. Over time, I also expanded into clinical lymphatic care, becoming a certified manual lymphatic drainage therapist in 2022 and a certified lymphedema therapist earlier this year. Returning to the beauty industry with a more advanced clinical focus allows me to work with people in a one-on-one setting, where the impact feels much more tangible.
I see the profound results of this work, and it’s truly a blessing to witness my clients’ improved confidence and greater sense of ease in their bodies.

Elysian Rose Aesthetics and Wellness offers results-driven facials, age-defying skin treatments, and the Dr. Vodder method of manual lymphatic drainage in a private, calming boutique setting. We combine clinical efficacy with elevated, personalized care, utilizing medical-grade skincare alongside luxury botanical products to create integrative experiences.

What sets Elysian Rose apart is the unique intersection of advanced aesthetics and clinical lymphatic expertise. Our founder brings nearly two decades of experience in the beauty industry, along with specialized training as a certified manual lymphatic drainage therapist and certified lymphedema therapist—allowing us to offer a level of care that few aesthetic providers can match. This expertise supports clients seeking everything from facial sculpting and skin rejuvenation to post-procedure recovery and therapeutic lymphatic care.

How do you think about luck?
I generally don’t tend to view things through the lens of luck alone. I believe growth is more often the result of hard work, preparation, timing, resilience, and personal development—along with the willingness to evolve when circumstances change.

That said, I do recognize that certain opportunities, relationships, and moments of encouragement can shape our path in meaningful ways. I’ve been fortunate to have experiences that broadened my perspective, from working in high-end beauty environments early in my career to having mentors, clients, and supporters who believed in me at pivotal moments.

On the other hand, entrepreneurship also requires navigating uncertainty, setbacks, and unexpected challenges. Building something meaningful rarely happens in a straight line. For me, success has been less about luck and more about staying committed, continuing to learn, and being ready to act when the right opportunities present themselves.
