Today we’d like to introduce you to Ezekiel Washington.
Hi Ezekiel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been dancing for over 25 years, starting at a very young age. I trained in a variety of styles including jazz, ballet, hip hop, contemporary, and more, and spent much of my early years training throughout Northern California. Dance was always a big part of my life, but I truly fell in love with it again when I joined my high school dance team, Soul Purpose, in Sacramento, California. That experience reignited my passion and showed me the impact of being part of a team and a community.
I continued my journey at Consumers River College, where I was part of the dance department and expanded both my training and perspective. During that time, I also had the opportunity to be involved with several crews, including 1UP Fam, Hijinx, Grooveology and Blackrownz, which helped shape my artistry and pushed me to grow in different environments.
In 2016, I made the move to Southern California to pursue dance professionally and to immerse myself in a larger dance community. I joined Team Millennia, where I spent six years growing not only as a dancer but also as a leader. For the last four years, I served as director, which challenged me to develop my voice, mentor others, and help shape the team’s vision.
Since then, I’ve taken the next steps in my career by signing with Briizy Talent Agency and creating my own team, Project Z. At this point in my journey, I’m focused not only on continuing to grow as an artist, but also on building platforms, creating opportunities, and contributing to the dance community in a meaningful way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth or easy road. One of the biggest challenges was stepping out of my comfort zone and moving away from my family to pursue dance. That distance can be tough, especially when you’re building something in a new environment and don’t have that same immediate support system around you.
Another struggle I faced was feeling like I started my journey later than others, which at times made me question if I was behind. But over time, I’ve come to realize that everyone’s path is different. That mindset shift was important for me. It allowed me to focus less on comparison and more on my own growth, timing, and purpose. Those challenges ultimately helped shape my resilience and gave me a stronger sense of direction in my career.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a professional dancer, and that’s the core of what I do. My foundation is in multiple styles, but I specialize primarily in hip hop and bring that into both my performance and choreography. Beyond dancing, I also direct, teach, and build spaces for other dancers to grow, which has become a big part of my work.
One of the things I’m most proud of is starting my own dance company, Project Z, and seeing how quickly it has grown. In just three years, we’ve placed first and second in almost every competition we’ve entered, which is something not every team is able to accomplish, especially in such a short amount of time. More than the wins, I’m proud of the culture and standard we’ve built.
What sets me apart is that I’m not afraid to be different or step outside of what’s expected. I don’t just follow trends, I focus on creating something that feels authentic and pushes boundaries. I also make it a priority to create an inclusive space where dancers from all backgrounds and skill levels can come in, train, and grow. It’s not about choosing favorites or just working with people I already know, it’s about building something real and giving opportunities to those who are willing to put in the work.
