Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaelen Edmonds.
Hi Jaelen, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey has truly been the unfolding of a lotus flower, growing through layers, guided by purpose, and rooted in transformation. From a young age, I always carried big dreams. I was inspired by multi-hyphenate creatives like Raven-Symoné and Hannah Montana, and I knew early on that I wanted to live a life that blended creativity, expression, and impact.
Music was my first love. I recorded my first demo at just seven years old and continued to pursue singing and songwriting as I grew. But even then, I felt called to something more, I just didn’t yet have the language for it. At the same time, I was navigating my own personal challenges with eczema, which I’ve had my entire life. As a teenager, I began experimenting with natural and holistic remedies, trying to heal my skin from the inside out. That experience sparked a deep curiosity and passion for skincare and wellness.
In high school, I started creating my own skincare products and transformed my bedroom into a boutique-style spa, lining the walls with products and envisioning a future I couldn’t yet fully articulate. When I entered the workforce, I quickly realized traditional retail environments didn’t align with me. By 19, I made a decision: if I was going to work a 9-to-5, it would be in spaces that reflected beauty, healing, and intention.
That choice led me to work in a range of med spas, holistic spas, and medical offices as a front desk and sales professional. I had the opportunity to serve VVIP clientele at a young age, which shaped my understanding of luxury—not just as aesthetics, but as an elevated, deeply personalized experience.
In 2020, everything shifted. I went through a profound spiritual awakening that led me to explore Eastern medicine and holistic healing. During that time, I received clear visions of myself living a balanced life one where music and wellness could coexist, this vision rescued me from very deep depression and anxiety. That clarity propelled me to pursue my esthetician license and begin studying Ayurveda, aligning my passion for skincare with a deeper, more intentional healing philosophy. Through this discovery I was able to heal my nervous system using herbs, prayer, and proper discernment.
By 2023, I began building my business, offering skincare tools and growing my presence online. In 2024, I expanded into mobile esthetics, collaborating with wellness events while continuing to work a traditional job. Throughout it all, I remained devoted to music because for me, choosing one path over the other never felt sustainable. Honoring both became my balance.
Today, in 2026, I am the founder of JustTheEssentials LLC, a boutique wellness studio based in Encino, California. I specialize in holistic and Ayurvedic facial treatments and consultations, offering services such as herbal yoni steams, ionic foot detoxes, and scalp oil treatments. I also have developed my own Ayurvedic Bath Tea line that are customized according to your specific dosha. Herbal Bathing and prayer have been my guiding light to emotional balance, so I made this product with the hope that it’ll do the same for others. My intention is to support others in regulating their nervous systems and achieving full-body harmony from the crown of the head to the soles of the feet through practices that have deeply transformed my own life. I also have released my very first album in February 2026 called ‘ Who Am Ai” that thoroughly speaks about my journey through music, love, spirituality, and holistic healing.
As I continue to grow, I am preparing to open a second location in Inglewood, California. Being raised in Leimert Park, it has always been important for me to bring these healing modalities back to the community that shaped me. This work is not just a business it is a reflection of my journey, my healing, and my purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth journey. Getting to this point has been deeply emotional and, at times, incredibly difficult. I’ve had to learn some of my biggest lessons through lived experience over giving, people-pleasing, boundaries, humility, consistency, and navigating both friendships and professional relationships.
There were many environments where I felt misunderstood. People would admire my light, but at the same time question its authenticity. I often felt like I wasn’t allowed to be human to make mistakes, to have emotions, or to take up space fully. Instead, I was expected to carry responsibility, endure disrespect, and still remain the same bubbly, giving person.
I also went through long seasons of depression, addictions, anxiety, anger, and low self-esteem. For a while, it felt like every time I worked hard for something and finally received an opportunity, it would somehow be taken away. That created a pattern where I became extremely hard on myself, especially as a teenager. Being an only child raised by a single mother, I felt a deep sense of responsibility to succeed not just for myself, but for my family. So every setback felt personal, and I internalized it in ways that made me shrink myself to fit into spaces that weren’t meant for me.
There were also periods of deep confusion, where I felt spiritually and emotionally overwhelmed. But through all of it, my faith never left me and in many ways, those challenges strengthened it. My connection to the spiritual realm deepened, and my discernment became one of my greatest tools.
As a child, my voice was my protection. I learned to use my words sharply to defend myself against bullying. But as I’ve grown, that same voice has evolved. Today, I use it with intention to heal, to connect, and to create safe spaces for others to feel seen and understood.
Looking back, every obstacle shaped the woman and entrepreneur I am today. It taught me resilience, self-awareness, and how to lead with both strength and compassion.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In regards to my music career, music has never just been something I do, it’s a part of who I am. It’s deeply rooted in my lineage and identity. I come from a family many would consider music royalty. My great-uncle, Kenneth ‘Babyface’ Edmonds, and my grandfather, Melvin Edmonds of the legendary After 7, are both part of that legacy.
On both sides of my family, music has always been present. My father’s roots run deep in R&B, while my mother was a singer and songwriter herself. She was born in Stan Creek, Belize where the culture is rich with Caribbean influences like calypso and soca.
Because of that, music has always felt less like a choice and more like something embedded in my DNA it’s been around me, within me, for as long as I can remember.
In my work as an esthetician, my area of expertise is rooted in holistic wellness. I take a more intentional, whole-body approach to skincare, understanding that what we see on the surface is often a reflection of what’s happening internally.
I specialize in manual lifting massage techniques that help sculpt, tighten, and naturally rejuvenate the skin. These movements not only enhance circulation and promote a youthful glow, but also support relaxation and overall balance within the body.
For me, it’s not just about results it’s about creating an experience that allows clients to feel restored, aligned, and reconnected to themselves.
I’d say I am most proud of my entrepreneurial achievements being that my grandmother on my mother side was the first person in our family lineage to own a successful business in the United States. It’s been extremely gratifying and truly beautiful to see my contributions to that legacy as well.
I’ve had really great moments within my music career as well that I am proud of. I’ve been blessed to have had the opportunity to be part of the Sunday Service Choir led by Kanye West. That experience reignited something in me. It opened the door to performing background vocals for artists like PJ Morton, Kirby, and Shelea, including appearances connected to The Terrell Show. Being in those environments reminded me how much I truly love music and storytelling.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I would describe myself as a risk-taker. Throughout my journey, I’ve consistently chosen to remove myself from environments that no longer value me. I’ve left jobs without a backup plan and released myself from contracts and partnerships when I felt they were no longer aligned with my path.
To me, being a risk-taker is deeply connected to self-awareness and a reverence for the spiritual journey we’re all on. Knowing when to walk away is one of the greatest gifts you can cultivate. It comes from understanding that nothing in this life is permanent, and that what is meant for you will never require you to abandon yourself. From that place, taking a risk doesn’t feel like risk at all it feels like alignment, guided by the light you carry within you.
