Conversations with Alfonsus Abimatha

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfonsus Abimatha.

Hi Alfonsus, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We met first in 2017 (Abimatha, Meinard, Alexander, Rere). We started recording songs in early May 2020. At that time, we invited Sandy as an official member of Somniumsaic, so the current formation is Alexander (Vocal), Abimatha (Guitar), Sandy (Guitar), Rere (Bass), and Meinard (Drum).

The name of Somniumsaic was initiated by the four initial personnel by combining two words, namely “Somnium”, which means “dream” in Latin, and “Mosaic”, which means “mosaic” or “collage”. Overall, Somniumsaic means Dream Mosaic or Dream Collage.
Somniumsaic carries the Modern Metal genre. In general, we bring music with a new metal colour because we will experiment with the genres that we carry in the future, so the output we get is not completely metal. We have released our debut album, named Wars Within and got nominated for The Best Metal Album in the AMI Awards 2023 (Indonesian Music Awards). Our single Faith (2024) also got nominated for The Best Metal Duo/Artist in the AMI Awards 2025.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course not. We’re not coming from the scene. We’re just introverteds that matched each other and are making a band. I think we’re kinda hard to get invited to play in any gigs/events in our city (Malang, Indonesia).

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a modern metal band. We play metal music with clean vocals and a scream part.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Doing the thing we love. That’s simple.
