Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Luu.
Andy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Oh man, where do I start? Hi! My name is Andy, and I am an Asian American Actor and Voice Actor based in Los Angeles. I originally was raised in Hawaii and moved to LA in 2020 at the height of the pandemic…
Fast forward to 2024, I made one of the best decisions of my life and signed up for Level 1 Improv at Cold Tofu Improv. Shoutout Mike and Helen and my 2024 Cold Tofu cohort <3. 8 months of improv brought so much joy and play into my life, and once it came to an end, I felt a little lost.
This all changed in September 2024 when I saw an audition on Actors Access for a Netflix Korean English Dub role. I submitted a headshot and my video reel, and within a couple of hours, I was asked to audition for the role. A week had passed, and I had quite frankly forgotten about the audition altogether, that was until I received a notification that I had BOOKED the role??
I showed up to my session and found out that I was voicing Seo Jun-tae in Weak Hero Class 2, and from there, a domino effect occurred. In January 2025, I took my first voiceover class with my mentor and good friend, Brandon English. I then continued my training at Voice Masters with Mimi Maynard and Paulette Lifton. In May 2025, I got signed with DDO for voiceover representation in LA! Following that, months later, I was offered management representation from The Pare Way Management.
Since then, I have been fortunate to have worked on more dubbing projects for Netflix and my most recent project, on Hulu! It has truly been a whirlwind of a year and an exciting start to my journey. I owe so much to everyone who has and continues to support me, and I am excited to see where this journey goes!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, I think the biggest obstacle and struggle would have to be the mental gymnastics of it all. My career at the start felt like it went from 0-100 mph, and I knew I had to do my best to keep up. There was a constant pressure that I put on myself to prove that I was meant to be here. I knew that I could either collapse under the pressure or rise to the challenge. So I took the challenge route and got myself in more classes, and more workshops, and very quickly, the imposter syndrome that I had felt of not being “good enough” faded away. I am lucky to also be surrounded by so many wonderful mentors, friends, and voiceover colleagues who support me every day!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Asian American Voice Actor and primarily work in the English Dubbing space. I have been fortunate to have worked on shows such as Weak Hero Class 2, Single’s Inferno S5, and, most recently, the Spanish Psychological Thriller Innate.
I would say that I currently specialize in English Dubbing for foreign media, but I am also looking forward to growing my career in the animation/anime/video game spaces.
Personally, I am known for my sunny disposition and openness to share and help others! I truly believe that my success is not my own, and the only way to rise is to rise together! In the realm of voiceover, I would say I am known for my youthful and energetic reads.
The thing that I am most proud of is not giving up and really giving myself a shot at this. It’s so easy to feel scared and overwhelmed when you’re thrown into the unknown, but if I could offer a piece of advice to anyone scared to pursue a goal or ambition. I would say DO IT SCARED! Oh, and have fun! Please always remember to have fun and find joy in the things you want to do.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be waking up to my mom making breakfast and watching Pokémon on VHS. Oh! and watching the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and pretending with my siblings that we were the actors on screen, so we would imitate the efforts and fighting sounds as we saw them get hit. I guess you could say from a young age, I was already diving into the world of dubbing haha
