Check Out VICTORIA Theodore’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to VICTORIA Theodore.

Hi VICTORIA, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been a professional pianist since I was 14 years old, playing in an Oakland based band called “The Strip”. We were primarily a Prince cover band, playing all of the hits we could learn. We had modest success, even playing for large audiences, and opening for Janet Jackson on her tour of high schools when promoting her first album.

While I was in the band, I was also enrolled in the Young Musician’s Program, which aligned scholarships to study with professors at U. C. Berkeley and talented students who were economically disadvantaged. I eventually had to make a choice between the band and my piano studies. I chose piano.

Today I’m a professional pianist, singer, composer, music director and educator. I now have my own band, EnSPirits. I do my best to offer thoughtful leadership, rooted in kindness and encouragement, while maintaining high standards. I travel the world, I play my own music, I cherish my connections to artists and fans around the world, and look forward to more musical adventures!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Artists must continually adjust to remain relevant. I’ve always loved learning, enhancing and expanding my skill set, which I believe has given me an advantage. I also care deeply…some would say too deeply, as it triggers my perfectionist side. My goal is balance.

As with most artists, the biggest challenge is financial: unless we’re born with wealth, or figure out how to create wealth through art or other means, we must find a way to subsidize our art. I have a wonderful Patreon community, and do my best to offer them value.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m known for touring with Stevie Wonder (keys and background vocals), Beyoncé (keys), performing on the Arsenio Hall Show (keys and vocals), in film (“Tick, Tick, Boom”, “CODA”, “20 Feet From Stardom”), and in musical theater. I’ve performed on Broadway in The Donna Summer Musical (Music Director / Pianist), Freestyle Love Supreme (keys), Regional Theater in Three Summers of Lincoln (Music Director / Pianist), Jelly’s Last Jam (Music Director / Pianist).

I’m co-composer, arranger and orchestrator for 2 new works: Co-Founders (World Premiere 2025 @ ACT in San Francisco), and MARIAN (selected for the University of Michigan New Works Festival 2026, concert with the Detroit Opera in October 2026, upcoming commercial production in 2027).

I also tour the world with my band, EnSPirits.

What sets me apart is my joy, my commitment to excellence, and desire to change the world through music!

How do you think about happiness?
Music makes me happy! I often say that music chose me. I’ve known that I wanted to be a professional pianist since I was 12 years old.

Nature makes me happy. I love being in nature, playing with dogs, enjoying the company of cats and reptiles (lizards are so cute!), witnessing the kindness of others, seeing people thrive, especially the people I love.

Art, poetry, dance, good food and travel all make me happy because they enhance my human experience.
