Today we’d like to introduce you to Grace Kim.
Hi Grace, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I didn’t start The Fold as a business… It actually came from a pretty personal place.
I realized I was constantly consuming things like videos, podcasts, and even content about faith, but I was not really slowing down enough to process any of it. Everything felt fast and a little overwhelming, and I wanted something quieter and more intentional, so I started making what I felt like I was missing.
At first, it was just writing letters and journal entries. Simple reflections, things I was thinking about, questions I was sitting with. That eventually turned into The Fold Post, which is a monthly snail mail subscription where people receive a physical letter and a few small paper goods. The idea was to create something you could actually hold onto instead of just another piece of content you scroll past.
As I kept going, I started sharing more online too. Book recommendations, videos, and different resources. I realized other people were feeling a similar kind of overload. Not necessarily disconnected, just unsure how to slow down or where to begin.
Now, The Fold has grown into a mix of both. There is the physical mail, but also a digital side with curated resources and content. At its core, it is about creating a space that feels a little slower and more thoughtful in the middle of everything else.
I am still figuring it out as I go. It is very much a work in progress, which I think is part of what makes it feel real.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not really. It’s been pretty messy.
In the beginning, I was figuring everything out at once. Design, printing, packaging, shipping, even pricing. I made mistakes, lost money at times, and had to keep adjusting as I went.
It’s also personal. A lot of what I share comes from my own thoughts, so there’s a level of vulnerability in putting it out there and not knowing how people will respond.
Growth has been another challenge. Social media can feel unpredictable, and it’s easy to question whether what you’re building is actually working.
And just staying consistent without burning out has been its own learning process.
Overall, it hasn’t been smooth, but that’s also what’s shaped it into something more personal.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I create The Fold, which is a mix of physical and digital content. The main part is a monthly snail mail subscription where I send out a letter and a few designed pieces, and alongside that I share videos and curated resources online.
My background is in graphic design and content creation, so this started as a way to use those skills more intentionally. Over time, it grew into something I cared more deeply about. I realized I wanted to create things that people don’t just scroll past, but actually keep and come back to.
I would say I focus on making things feel simple, thoughtful, and well-designed. The physical mail is probably what I’m most known for. It takes something that is usually digital and turns it into something tangible and a bit more personal.
What I’m most proud of is how people interact with it. They reread it, journal with it, or hold onto it. It feels less like content and more like something that stays with them.
What sets it apart is that it’s slower and more intentional. It’s not built around trends or constant output. It’s designed to last a little longer and feel more meaningful in everyday life.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I think success, for me, is reaching even one person in a real way.
If something I create stays with someone, if they reread it, keep it, or feel a little less overwhelmed because of it, that’s enough.
