Life & Work with Queena Hoang of Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Queena Hoang.

Hi Queena , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started calligraphy back in 2016 when I moved to LA for work. I was living in a new city and needed to pick up a hobby that didn’t exactly require me to go out because I’m a total home body. Then, in 2021, I wanted to see if this could be an actual business. Since then, my business has transformed from a product-based hobby, to creative side hustle, to now a full-blown live event business serving hundreds of clients across various industries over the past 5 years.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say that the road was rocky – there were just a lot of alternative routes and I, as a business owner, needed to decide whether or not I wanted to take them.

Although I technically started in 2021, it didn’t really feel *real* until 2025. Those early years were a lot of trial and error…figuring out how to run a business, price my work, and build a brand that actually reflects what I do.

There were moments of uncertainty, especially balancing the creative side with the business side. But having a strong circle of fellow entrepreneurs made a huge difference in this process. These women have been my sounding board and biggest support system.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As an event calligrapher and engraver, my work sits at the intersection of craftswomanship and guest experience. I partner with each of my clients to turn everyday items into something more intentional and meaningful.

While calligraphy is often seen as simply “beautiful handwriting,” what I offer beyond my craft is a fully curated, thoughtful, collaborative process and experience. Each activation is designed to feel seamless for my clients and engaging for their guests.

I’ve worked across brand activations, corporate events, and weddings, but what I’m most proud of is creating moments that feel both elevated and human all in one. What sets myself and my work apart is the balance between precision and my presence, being able to execute at a high level while also reading the room, connecting with guests, and making the experience feel effortless.
