Life & Work with Abimael Acuña of Anaheim Ca.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abimael Acuña.

Hi Abimael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started tattooing at 23 years old, and honestly, it wasn’t an easy beginning. I was working from home, trying to learn from YouTube videos — lol! At that time, my skills weren’t good enough to work in a professional studio yet. I tried to get an apprenticeship, but nobody wanted to give me an opportunity. Even so, I never stopped practicing or improving my craft.
The beginning was very difficult, but those struggles helped shape me into the artist I am today. Now, my focus is continuing to learn, grow, and become even better every day.
My journey of creating art on skin has been incredible, and I hope to continue making meaningful tattoos that make people happy and confident through my art.

Being the first and only tattoo artist in my family has been both challenging and amazing at the same time — lol!

I’m thankful to God for giving me this gift and for blessing me with opportunities I once could only imagine. I will continue improving my skills and doing my best to create amazing tattoos for every client who trusts me with their skin and their story.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to be part of your magazine. I truly appreciate it.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The difficult part was not having someone close to guide me in this industry. Of course, my family always supported me emotionally, and I’m grateful for that, but they couldn’t really help me understand tattoos or art techniques like painting, blending colors, mixing inks, and everything that comes with becoming a professional artist.

Because of that, I had to figure out many things on my own, and I struggled a lot in the process.

But at the same time, it’s amazing to be the only tattoo artist in the family. Why? Because not everyone has the ability to create something meaningful that people will proudly wear on their skin forever. That’s a special kind of talent, and I feel blessed to be able to do it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a professional Tattoo Artist, owner of Dark Secret Tattoo Studio in Anaheim.

I’ve been a tattoo artist for more than 15 years, specializing in styles such as color tattoos, black and grey, neo-realism, and portraits.

Also, I do Mixed Media Art, as prints, stickers, merchandise.

What’s next?
My future plans, I want to continue making art, tattoos, and merchandise.

Also, I would like to create my own art show to help other artists to be known
