Today we’d like to introduce you to Serj Baumtsveyger.
Hi Serj, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in beauty with a deep passion for transformation and precision. From the very beginning, I was drawn to the power of hair and makeup – not just a service, but as a way to elevate confidence and identity. I invested in advanced education, working with professional color systems and techniques, and continuously refining my craft through hands-on experience and high-level training.
What truly shaped me was my commitment to learning from the entire world. I studied and trained internationally, collecting knowledge, and techniques form the best in the industry.
I had a privilege of studying in France,Germany, Italy, Greece, Israel, Russia, United States, and the Netherlands, each experience deepening my understanding of beauty, culture, and my own artistic voice.
Over the years, I developed a signature approach focused on detail, personalization, and results. Whether it’s a complex color correction, a seamless blonde, or a refined men’s grooming look, my goal has always been to deliver work that feels both elevated and effortless.
That vision led me to create my own private luxury salon space in Miracle Mile, Los Angeles. I wanted to offer something different – an environment that is discreet, calm, and fully tailored to each client. No noise, no rush – just focused, high-end experience where every detail matters.
Today I work with a divers clientele who value quality, privacy, and expert-level results. I continue to evolve with the industry, integrating new techniques, products, and technologies to stay at the forefront of modern beauty.
This is more than a career for me – its a craft, a discipline, and commitment to excellence every single day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many in the beauty industry, one of the biggest challenges was building a loyal clientele from the ground up while staying true to my standards. Early on, there’s pressure to lower processor rush services just to complete, but I made a conscious decision to focus on quality over quantity – and that takes time.
Another challenge was transitioning into my own private salon space. Creating a luxury, independent environment in Los Angeles comes with both financial risk and responsibility. From branding and client experience to operations and consistency, everything depends on you. There’s no shortcut – you have to wear multiple hats and learn quickly.
I’ve also faced technical challenges behind the chair – complex color corrections, maintaining hair integrity, and delivering consistent high-end results. Those moments pushed me to invest even more into education, product knowledge, and precision.
At the same time, building visibility in a competitive market like Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills, and West Hollywood required a strong focus on marketing, SEO, and positioning.Learning how to stand out digitally while maintaining a premium image was a challenge in itself.
Every obstacle has ultimately refined my approach. It strengthened my discipline, elevated my standards, and helped me create a more intentional, high-quality experience for my clients.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a hairstylist, colorist, and groomer specializing in high-end, personalized beauty services. My work focuses on precision haircuts, advanced color techniques, and restorative treatments designed to enhance both the look and integrity of the hair. I’m particularly known for seamless blonding, complex color corrections, and creating natural, dimensional results that grow out beautifully.
Beyond technical education, I approach my work as a fully customized experience. Every client is different, and I take the time to analyze hair condition, structure, and lifestyle before creating a tailored plan. I also incorporate professional-grade products and advanced treatments to maintain hair health while achieving high-impact results.
What I’m most proud of is building a private luxury salon space in Miracle Mile, Los Angeles. It allows me to offer a more elevated, discreet, and focused environment where clients receive one-on-one attention without the noise or rush of a traditional salon. That level of care and intention is something my clients truly value.
What sets me apart is a combination of technical precision, aesthetic vision, and attention to detail. I don’t rush the process, and I don’t compromise on quality. My goal is always to deliver results that feel effortless, refined, and long-lasting – while creating an experience that feels just as exceptional as the outcome.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m very intentional about the resources I consume – they need to elevate both my technical precision and my artistic vision.
In terms of books, I’m deeply inspired by “The Art of Color” and “The Element of Color” by Johannes Itten. His theory of contrast, harmony, and the emotional psychology of color has a direct influence on how I approach hair – especially when creating dimension, balance, and tone.
I’m also drawn to the work of Michele Pasturo, particularly his exploration of the history and meaning of black, red, and blue colors. His perspective on black color as depth and structure, red color as energy and transformation, and blue color as control and balance resonates strongly with how I design color. These ideas translate into my work behind the chair – where every tone is intentional, and every result is built with both aesthetic and emotional impact in mind.
From scientific and technical standpoint, I value trichology and scalp health as the foundation of great hair. Education and systems from Sebastian Professional and Nioxin have influenced my understanding of hair as a material and the scalp as a living environment. This approach allows me to combine creativity with science – ensuring not only beautiful results, but also long-term hair integrity and health.
For daily workflow and business, I use platforms like Vagaro to maintain a seamless client experience, and Instagram, Tik-Tok or FaceBook as a curated visual portfolio. I also stay connected to ongoing education from professional brands like WELLA, Sebastian Professional, Nioxin, and GHD to remain current with innovation in color, treatment, and technique.
Overall, I’m inspired by balance of art, science, and structure – resources that refine my eye, deepen my knowledge, and allow me to deliver a highly intentional, luxury-level experience.
