Today we’d like to introduce you to Joanna Espinosa.
Hi Joanna, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Joanna, and I’m the founder of Crystals In Paradise. What started as a personal passion for crystals, healing, and positive energy slowly grew into something much bigger than I ever imagined. I was drawn to crystals during a time in my life when I was searching for balance, comfort, and deeper meaning. The more I learned about their energy, history, and spiritual connection, the more I wanted to share that experience with others.
I began by selling crystals at local events and small pop-ups, connecting with people one conversation at a time. What made it special was realizing that people weren’t just buying crystals, they were looking for healing, encouragement, protection, clarity, and connection. That inspired me to build a brand and community centered around education, positivity, spirituality, and self-growth.
Over time, Crystals In Paradise expanded throughout California. We’ve had the opportunity to attend large events like Comic Con, metaphysical expos, and local markets, meeting incredible people from all walks of life. Along the way, I’ve continued learning, growing, and finding new ways to educate others about crystals, energy, mindfulness, and holistic wellness.
Beyond the crystal business, I’ve also started stepping into book writing and creative projects that reflect personal growth, healing, and connection. I’m currently exploring ways to expand the Crystals In Paradise brand even further, with new ideas and opportunities in the works. Nothing is fully concrete just yet, but there is definitely more to come, and I’m excited for what the future holds.
Today, my goal is bigger than simply selling crystals. I want Crystals In Paradise to be a safe, uplifting space where people feel inspired, supported, and connected. Whether someone is completely new to crystals or has been on their spiritual journey for years, I want them to feel welcomed and empowered. This journey has been built through passion, consistency, community support, and truly loving what I do every day.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road.
When I first started Crystals In Paradise, one of the biggest challenges was simply figuring everything out as I went. I began with small pop-ups and local events, and there was a lot of trial and error, learning how to source quality crystals, understanding pricing, building inventory, and figuring out what actually connects with people. There wasn’t a blueprint for what I was doing, so a lot of it came from intuition, persistence, and learning in real time.
Another challenge was consistency. Events can be unpredictable, some weekends are amazing and others are very slow. That emotional and financial inconsistency can be tough when you’re trying to grow a business. On top of that, there are always behind-the-scenes logistics like setup, permits, travel, weather, and long event days that people don’t always see.
There were also moments of self-doubt, especially early on, when I had to explain and educate people about crystals and energy work. Not everyone understands or believes in it right away, so part of my journey has been learning how to stay grounded in my purpose while also respecting different perspectives.
As the business grew, new challenges came with it, scaling, managing inventory for larger events, balancing family life, and trying to expand while still keeping the heart and intention behind the brand intact. Burnout has also been something I’ve had to be mindful of, because I genuinely pour myself into every event and interaction.
Through all of it, I’ve learned resilience, patience, and the importance of staying aligned with why I started in the first place. Crystals In Paradise isn’t just a business to me, it’s a passion and a community.
And even with the challenges, it’s been worth it. Every obstacle has helped shape both me and the brand into what it is today. The growth has been gradual, but very intentional.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Crystals In Paradise?
Crystals In Paradise is a crystal and metaphysical brand built around education, energy, and intentional living. We specialize in high-quality crystals, curated crystal bundles, and intentional pieces that are chosen not just for beauty, but for their energetic meaning and purpose. Each item is selected with the intention of helping people connect more deeply with themselves, whether that’s for grounding, protection, clarity, emotional healing, or manifestation.
What we’re most known for is the experience. At in-person events, it’s not just about shopping, it’s about connection. I take time to talk with people, understand what they’re going through, and guide them toward crystals that align with their personal energy or intentions. A lot of customers say they come for one thing but leave with exactly what they needed, even if they didn’t know it at first.
What sets Crystals In Paradise apart is the heart behind it. This isn’t a mass-produced or purely retail-driven brand. It’s very intentional, very hands-on, and very community-focused. I also prioritize education, sharing what crystals mean, how to use them, how to cleanse them, and how to incorporate them into everyday life. I want people to feel empowered, not overwhelmed.
Beyond crystals, the brand is expanding into deeper lifestyle and spiritual wellness spaces. I’ve also begun writing and developing content that reflects healing, personal growth, and emotional transformation. There’s an evolution happening behind the scenes, and while not everything is fully launched yet, the vision is much bigger than retail alone.
What I’m most proud of is the community that has formed. People return not just for crystals, but for the energy, consistency, and trust that’s been built over time. Seeing customers grow on their own spiritual journeys, watching them come back to share how something helped them through a hard moment, that’s what means the most to me.
At its core, Crystals In Paradise is about creating a safe, uplifting space where people feel seen, supported, and inspired. Whether someone is brand new to crystals or deeply experienced in spiritual work, my goal is for them to feel welcomed and guided without judgment.
We currently connect with our community at markets, expos, conventions, and pop-up events across California, and we continue to grow through education, storytelling, and real human connection.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memories are from spending summers at my grandparents’ house in Pennsylvania. Those times were simple, but they meant everything to me.
I would spend my days walking around the small town with my grandma. She knew everyone, she worked at the local bakery, so every few steps turned into a conversation, a laugh, or a quick catch-up. I remember watching how connected she was to the community, and how naturally she made time for people. It really shaped how I see connection today.
During those summers, I also spent a lot of time at the city pool with friends I made while visiting. It was carefree, just being a kid, laughing, swimming, and enjoying the long summer days.
At night, I’d be back at my grandparents’ house playing cards with them, talking, and just enjoying their company. One summer, I also worked in the garden with my grandpa, my “Pap.” I remember how patient he was, teaching me how to plant and care for things, and how proud he was of even the smallest help I gave.
Looking back, those moments were so grounding. They were filled with love, simplicity, family, and community. Even now, they remind me of what really matters, slowing down, connecting with people, and appreciating the little things in life.
