Today we’d like to introduce you to Zaira Zuniga.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Back in 2014, I started my makeup artistry course, it was one of my biggest dreams to become a makeup artist and hair stylist. As a young mother, I had to put my dreams on hold, but then, as my kids get older and with my husband’s encouragement to join my first course. Graduates a few months after.
Remember, I waited months for my first client and I charged $15 for my first full face glam (wow!). I look back to the beginning of my career and I love to see how much I have been growing.
All I wanted (still want) was to become better not only as a makeup artist or hair stylist but to be a better person as well. I would like young generations who have become parents at a very young age or have any struggles in life, to relate to me to show them that never is too late to fully fill any dream they have.
As of today, I feel like I’m just starting to build my clientele and this is just the beginning of what I wish to be a successful career.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been smooth at all!!! There’s so many challenges to face, so much competition, so much to work every day.
Personally, it gets harder because I’m a mom and a wife, that challenge is X3, times are not always perfect, it’s hard to keep a balance.
And the biggest challenge I think is “competition”. I think being competitive is okay at some point but don’t get lost looking into other people success, focus on personal competition” compete with your self to be better than yesterday and tomorrow, there’s room for everyone there’s no need to be negative and lose time and energy on others when you can use all of that energy on you!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Makeup by Zaira story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a certified makeup artist and hair stylist. I’m known for my bridal makeovers. I’m very proud of my work in general.
I think, what I’ve learned throughout the years and after clients reviews are that what sets me apart from others is my customer service. I make them feel comfortable, I listen to their request and deliver exactly what they want. don’t try to do what I want I always follow their request. Being bilingual, it is a big plus and it helps a lot.
Looking back on your childhood, what experiences do you feel played an important role in shaping the person you grew up to be?
Yes! Grandma always told me to dream big, if it doesn’t happen, keep dreaming but bigger. You’ll see the dream will follow you and soon will come true and that’s exactly what happened. I had to wait 9 years for my dream to come true.
